Musicmystery -> Dems or Reps? Depends who votes! (11/1/2010 4:16:30 AM)

Listening to NPR this morning, polls show people prefer Democrats.

But likely voters favor Republicans.

That's messed up, America. Even if the party situation were reversed, or if there were different parties, or if you support a third party....

Vote!

Let the next Congress/governors reflect the people's choice, not just those in the mood on Tuesday.

Whatever they think.

Perhaps we are not what we eat but what we hear.

I cannot wait fro Congress to stop spending my money in support of that sort of liberal crap/spin.

So Democrats are leading among the least engaged and interested voters. Is that anything like being the most popular teacher among likely dropouts?

All of us who are concerned for peace and triumph of reason and justice must be keenly aware how small an influence reason and honest good will exert upon events in the political field. ~Albert Einstein

Under democracy one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule - and both commonly succeed, and are right. ~H.L. Mencken, 1956

What is conservatism? Is it not the adherence to the old and tried against the new and untried? ~Abraham Lincoln

Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber. ~Plato

Liberalism is trust of the people tempered by prudence. Conservatism is distrust of the people tempered by fear. ~William E. Gladstone, 1866

and my personal favorite!

George Washington is the only president who didn't blame the previous administration for his troubles. ~Author Unknown

Nope ...you are wrong in exhorting people to vote.

The kind of people who do not take the time to look into issues that will affect them in the future do not need to vote.

We don’t need our representatives chosen like American Idol or Dancing with the Stars.

Let them wallow in their ignorance and let people who care decide the future.

One of the two big reasons I would dread internet voting. The other is fraud.

truck, Rich,

Hardly news, really--polls for months have shown approval for Congress in the toilet, with approval of Republicans even below that. After all, they're mad Congress hasn't done enough, and Republicans have done less than that--if you don't count promising to stop anything from getting done at all in the interests of wining back the White House.

Nonetheless, doesn't change the point. If you're sitting around with a preference, vote. If you care enough to have an opinion, care enough to vote.

Or have it your way, guys. A done deal for Republicans, so Republicans should just relax and stay home?

And you don't need to get your fur up over what you perceive as spin. In 2012, all those freshmen Senators that rode into office on a wave of anger at Republicans in 2006 are up for re-election. That's a lot of seats to defend.

And even though all this House election is going to accomplish is two years of gridlock (assuming Republicans win a majority), Republicans are favored in governors races, which gives them the edge in a redistricting year and tilts the field toward them for future House elections (in fact, I live in one of those bizarrely shaped districts that snakes through slivers of 11 counties and around all major cities in order to abandon it to Republicans--though last election an independent won the seat running on the Democrat slot).

So like the old joke says....vote early, and vote often!

You've hit on what was one of my big concerns, Muse. Would the energy of the summer fade into complacency? Fortunately, the Dems have done an excellent job of keeping the Repub base motivated. President Obama's efforts to get the liberal base engaged have only further alienated the independents who actually elected him, and his majorities.
