The tea leafs said that Barack Obama will not run in 2012 and Hilray Rodam will run for presisdent of the US.

Ms Palin will run also.

I wish Colin Powell would run.

Those tea leaves have been growing near strange mushrooms.

Thought they were called Tea Baggers -... then again once I heard that said about them I just stopped paying attention to them, so it wouldn't surprise me if they finally realized how stupid that name was and changed it.

Then again knowing how many 'shrooms they've got and this most recent rumor, it wouldn't surprise me if they hadn't changed it either.

maybemaybenot -> RE: Hilary Clinton (11/1/2010 7:14:24 PM)

The Tea Party activists did not give themselves that name.

WolfyMontgomery -> RE: Hilary Clinton (11/1/2010 7:24:38 PM)

Oh okay. I rarely heard them being called anything but either the Tea Party or Tea Baggers when I was paying attention to them. Figured they just hadn't known what the phrase meant.

It's not their ignorance on display.

"Tea baggers" is a sexually laden, intentional insult, so people who use it identify themselves with a certain bias.

Bullshit....I have no such bias [:)]

tazzygirl -> RE: Hilary Clinton (11/1/2010 8:22:41 PM)

First time i heard the term it was on a news show, dont recall which one. I said.. wtf? Then stopped to see what was up. Saw people walking around with tea bags hanging from the brims of their hats. Made sense to me why they called them that and i never thought anything else about it until some here pointed out how "insulting" that term was.

Perhaps those who find it insulting are the ones with a certain bias.

If you kept the receipt, you may be able to get a refund on those tea leaves.

PatrickG38 -> RE: Hilary Clinton (11/2/2010 10:14:36 AM)

hey, sorry firm. It was their term as confirmed by (I found it for you) a right wing source. We did over enjoy the name however. By the way, what taxes have gone up?

I forgot to mention the historical connection between the Boston Tea Party, where the American colonists were protesting British tax policy.

Now, on to your point.  Quotes from your source;

"Routinely, conservative protesters in the “tea party” movement are called “teabaggers,” and those calling them that do not mean it in a nice way."

and

"Some on the right are using “teabagger,” but mainly the word is a putdown from the left. Conservatives realize that nothing friendly is meant by it."

This is the point.

His comments about the genesis of the use of the term "tea bagger" within the ranks of the TEA parties is a anecdotal description of two signs that he says were seen at a protest.

Not particularly definitive, I don't think, regardless of who he is, or who he writes for.

And it does not distract from my point.  The parts of the article I quoted above actually reinforce it: the term is mainly used by members who wish to belittle and demean the people who are part of the movement, and you can be almost certain that anyone who uses it - especially on this forums - is a lefty, or lefty leaning individual.

PatrickG38 -> RE: Hilary Clinton (11/2/2010 10:32:41 AM)

Yes, it used to belittle and generally that should be avoided even if some groups appear to be asking for it. Not every Tea Party (but its not really a party, so give me a neutral term) member should be belittled even if as a whole the "party" is deeply unserious and not protesting in good faith.

Firm,

I call them nutsuckers and don't feel a bit bad about it.  If liberals are called socialists as a slur, or someone constantly writes shiteating asswipe like this:

Know your enemy.  Liberals lie.  Liberals deceive.  Liberals fight against liberty and against prosperity.  Do NO business with a liberal.  Don't rent to them, don't trade with them, don't refer clients to them...nothing.  Economic warfare is the only civilized strategy.

Or any number of things, and those who calls themselves conservative, or republican or anything  on that order do not immediately and vehmenently and continuously castigate someone of that slime class, but rather sit quietly........

Ron,

You and I both know that there are people on all sides that say things that we disagree with, and I hope you realize by now that ideologues of any stripe aren't my favorite people, even if they lean a little in the direction of some things I agree with.

But I can not control what others write.  I can only control what I write.  And I think you are your follow travelers do a pretty good job of "taking down" anyone who doesn't take the time, and have the clarity of mind to stay away from hyperbole and factually inaccurate statements.

On the other hand, I don't think "your side" always do such a good job of self-policing - which is kinda what you are asking me to do to posters that you classify as being "on the right".

I guess I don't see it as my job, since you and others do that quite well already (although I do occasionally give both public and private advice).

It's my "job" to take care of your problem children.  You can take care of "mine". [:)]

Division of labor, yanno.
