The democrats have not compromised in the last two years. They did it all on their own. I do not see the republicans compromising with the democrats in the next two years.

Then how exactly do they intend to accomplish anything, without the Senate or the White House?

Oh yeah---they don't.

Really?

How about that Health Care Act of 2010? The 14 months proceeding the vote? If Democrats went with Obama's original plan, it would have meant no comprising with the Republicans. I dont think you understand the word 'compromising'. It means to 'Give & Take' when dealing with a problem. A concept lost on most Republican/Tea Party members these days.

There were several times, President Obama met with Republicans, even on TV, to discuss ways to incorporate their ideas or remove their fears on the final bill. The idea, was, if they COMPROMISED, Republicans would vote in favor on the final bill. And so the compromisies were put in the final bill.

Tell me, servantforuse, just how many Republicans voted on the compromised bill? NONE OF THEM. That's just Health Care. How about Financial Reform? Stimulus Bill? Supreme Court Nominee? I and others can go on and on, in which Republicans, NOT, Democrats, failed at comprising.

As Mr. Stewart pointed out during his final speech this weekend (and as I've said), the system works, when there is 'Give & Take'. When one side is just 'Take', the system breaks down. And that is what Republicans decided to do: only Take and not Give an inch. Have been doing it since Mr. Obama came to office.

Maybe you could give us your defination of 'compromise'?

LMAO. On TV even. DID YOU EVEN SEE THAT FUCKING FARCE???

The compromises Obama made were to get it past Dems, not the GOP.

In some ways this result is good news for Obama. The Republicans will no longer be able to bleat on about how Obama is destroying America. Now the Republicans will have to take a bit of responsibility for the inevitable car crash.

It's interesting that the focus is on Obama's need to compromise. If things go tits up now and the Tea Partyers are seen by the electorate as having been obstructive or unhelpful, then I guess they might get hammered too.

Everyone needs to compromise. Everyone needs to share responsibility for good or ill.

Youre clueless. Bush was blamed for the Democrat led disasters of 2006-2008. The POTUS ALWAYS gets the blame or credit, regardless of how much influence he actually had over the outcome.

I see this election as the "voter dissatifaction".

I see it happening again in two years.

While people are celebrating this election season, they may want to keep in mind that their jobs are only secure for the term of their office.... and that goes for both sides of the political fence.

Yup, it will happen again in 2 years, when Obama is booted out and the GOP gains control of the Senate. 2014 is the soonest the Dems have a prayer of regaining the House.

tazzygirl -> RE: Predictions?: Petulant child or Clintonesque compromise (11/3/2010 10:17:40 PM)

Thank you for proving my point. [:D] It is that kind of thinking that will lose the GOP the next round.

DomKen -> RE: Predictions?: Petulant child or Clintonesque compromise (11/4/2010 5:38:46 AM)

This is pretty simple, if the GOP forces through an 'austerity' budget and prevents a new stimulus bill then the unemployment situation will not improve by 2012, may even be worse depending on how much money the GOP cuts off to the states, and they'll be out as fast as they got in.

Their only hope is to become keynsians.

So I take it you felt the Republicans were in "complete denial" following the election of 2008?

no, the dems were.

2008 was about 2 things:
1. Anti-Bush became anti-republican
2. "Making history" by casting an affirmative-action vote for 0bama0.

Dims thought a vote for 0bama0 was a vote for the eventually revealed policies of 0bama0.
They were wrong.

truckinslave -> RE: Predictions?: Petulant child or Clintonesque compromise (11/4/2010 6:01:57 AM)

And speaking of denial...how about Obama and Pelosi and Reid making comments about "the Republicans are no longer driving this bus" or "they can move to the back of the bus if they want to ride or they can get off" while promising bipartisanship?

No no no. See, the dims weakened their healthcare bill because they couldn't get enough dim votes to pass it. That proves how bipartisan they were.

That's not at all clear.
I expect the Republican House to pass relatively popular legislation (of course, anything Boehnor and Cantor allow to the floor will be more popular than what has been passed under Pelosi).
I expect some of that to be passed by the dim Senate (some dim Senators will be eager to run as having voted with Republicans).
I expect much of that legislation to be vetoed by 0bama0.
Who will, quite rightly, pay the price for having done so.

They cannot accomplish anything we -those who voted for them- want because of 0bama0s veto.
We understand that.
But they can pass it throught the House; if they don't, we'll find those who will.
They understand that.

And in 2012 the American people will have a distinct choice.
