FirmhandKY -> "Ugly People" Dating Site's First Marriage (11/3/2010 10:55:08 AM)

Found this while surfing, and thought first that it was a joke, and pretty funny.

Then I found that the site actually exists, and is pretty funny all by itself, about itself.

'Ugly Bug Ball' Dating Site For The 'Aesthetically Challenged' Celebrates First Engaged Couple

Dating website The Ugly Bug Ball, which offers "dating for the aesthetically challenged," is celebrating a major milestone: its first engagement.

Tom Clifford and Janine Walker are engaged to be married after having met on the site, the Telegraph reports, noting that the couple "met less than a month ago" on The Ugly Bug Ball.

"I appreciate that Tom isn't Brad Pitt, but then I'm no Angelina Jolie either," the bride-to-be told the Mirror.

From the websites portal page:

The Ugly Bug Ball.com

1 Half of UK daters aren’t pretty so instead of fishing in a small pool of prettiness and getting nowhere dive into an ocean of uglies and have more choice.

2 Ugly people are a better calibre of human - pretty people generally aren’t very nice and tend to be a bit shallow

3 Ugly people have had a tougher life and therefore tend to be more considerate and more loyal. A recent TUBB survey also proved that they try harder in bed.

4 Once with an ugly partner it is unlikely that anyone will try and take them from you meaning you can let yourself go completely once you’re together.

5 In these straightened times TUBB is cheaper as a) We don’t charge much as the pretty sites and b) Ugly people have lower expectations – for a first date A Family Bucket will usually do the trick.

How many CMer's are (or should be) TUBBers, do ya think?  [:D]

How incredibly sad and cynical!

I wouldn't want to date someone on that because they are ugly inside where it counts.

Translation: We feel bad about ourselves so we are going to attempt to tear down others!

For that matter, who is defining the ugly people? Is the scan every month and all the 'pretty people' are kicked out? [>:]

That's horrible.

I believe it was a twilight zone episode, that turned the tables.  In a sea of "different" people, the one who looked like a Brittney Spears double, was considered the ugly one.   She ended up having surgery so she could look like all the others.   Remember, without ugliness, there can be no beauty and vice versa, they depend on each other for existence.

Sounds like a great site for people who like partners with low self-esteem.

"Hey, do you have one with great legs and arse? I don't care if she has a head on her like a baked potato."

I really didn't regard it as turning the tables since - at the end - the 'ugly' people were sent to special camps to live.

I thought it was a rather well made point about stop giving a shit what you and other people look like. It doesn't matter.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

I was almost fine with the idea, until I scrolled to numbers 4 & 5, in theory, it sounded like an okay philosophy, but to say that, once you find someone you can let yourself go--yeah, that's just lazy, actually you should try that much harder, b/c once you're together or married, or dating seriously, it will be harder for you to keep someone's interest. Wish it didn't have to be that way, but usually that's true, the more complacent or lazy you get, the less interested the other person will get after a time, unless they are the same.

And about 4, good gravy !! Ugly ppl have lowered expectations, that seems to be very biased. I don't think that's true. It may seem that way, but the truth is there are plenty of good looking ppl who set expectations low too (what about all them?). This kind of reminds me of that MadTV skit, for "lowered expectations"...press one, for Antonia, press two for Stewart, press three for Stan.

Nothing wrong against having a site like that, but that's a good point someone made about how do they make their rejections? I mean, what if a really beautiful person wanted to post on that site, would they actually get turned down (I would find that hard to believe really). You know, I really would like to see an experiment like that take place, just to see the results. Wonder what would happen?

Am I the only one who remembers the 50's movie, "Marty"?  .
