I find it strange that they would throw out an election because a politician lied about something.   Especially something as insignificant as where his opponent lived.   the article doesn't say, but it looks like the judges did this arbritarily without a real trial, but I am  sure that wasn't their intent.  Someone had to file suit.   The election was in May.   Since the Election was in May and I have no clue when they took office, what happens to all the laws that were passed or modified during that period?

Did you not read the article? The guy lied about something besides where his opponent lived.

Although folks around here better hope this precedent stays in europe. I know of several people with seats in congress that would lose them under this, Saxby Chambliss to name one.

Yeah    I agree it needs to stay in Europe.   But I am afraid that some judge will get a clue from this and go off on a tangent.

Get a grip, this is the firstv ruling of its kind for 99 years here, so its hardly something to worry about. The issue wasnt where his opponent lived, as you claimed. It was the claim that he was being backed by miltiant Muslims, a slightly more serious charge, wouldnt you say.

We would not have to go that far back, or start that small [:D]

Congress ? That would be in the US right ? Different laws folks. Down here the courts have specifically ruled that politicians and the media can lie with impunity. The bit I've read on the subject under US law they are also indemnified from any tort action due to consequences of their prevarication. Or did I miss something ?

Moot point anyway if I read correctly, the issue is not in the US right ?
