Greetings
I am a religions person, my faith is the most important part of my life. I considers myself to be multi religious with a focus on Paganism. I get both sad and angry when I see born again Atheists make often quite ignorant comments about all religions people, hurtful comments that every religions person is insane, stupid or delusional, and dismissing every experience we have as illusions or insanity. It is just arrogant and short sighted. Some go as far as to physically attack religions people, I have been a victim to such attacks myself, or to say religions people should not be allowed to raise children or practice their faith in public.
Now most Atheists are not like this, most have their view of the world and let others have theirs, but the number who are as bigoted as they claim the religions they hate is are growing. I think this is a shame. However at times I see how religions creates such hatred. Sometimes religion shoot itself in the foot, and creates and image that affects us all. I am Pagan but that do not mean I am not affected by the image that for example idiots who are Christians create when they commit stupidity in the name of religion. Therefore it angers me so much when I hear things like this.
In USA a organization who is involved with creating study books for public schools says they want to remove the theory of evolution from their books, and remove Edison and anyone who have had a real impact on history, who it is important that children learn about from school books, other parts of the world you hear of people killing one another over what name they call their God. In India young girls are sent from their families to live in poverty in widow towns to make up for the sins of dead husbands they have never even met. Every day you hear about ignorance and stupidity happening in the name of religion.
I think it is time religions people get more involved in disowning the idiocy. Most religious people are not stupid, we are not for violence, we only hold a belief that there is something supernatural in this world, a greater source or purpose to life. However every time one religious person do something stupid, it affects us all, we need to disown the stupidity, it do not matter if one is a Pagan, a Taoist, a Christian or a Muslim or any other religion, we need to show the world that believing in something greater than ourself do not make us irrational, or insane, that we are not willingly staying ignorant but accepting new knowledge and mixing it with our faith.
Now I know many do disown violence and stupidity, however what I think many do not realize is that we are all in the same boat, we have different faiths, but we are all religious people, we are all Spiritual people, and we need to stand together against stupidity done in the name of any religion, and show the world that faith in something Spiritual is a rational choice, that someone can take or not, it do not mean on is stupid, or value ignorance. We need to show that religion have a place in the future by stopping behavior which are locked in the past, often far in the past.
Ok rant over. I am just so tired of people being idiots and by that giving Atheists more ammunition to point and say all Spiritual people are fools. For it do not matter if it is someone from X religion who do the stupidity, we are all judged by it.
