They are to blame...

I am not sure what 53 is talking about... but HD "enthusiasts" as they are called here in the states, tend to mock Japanese Motorcycles
as rice burners. Now that their precious HD is outsourcing, it will be interesting to see if the mock the new product as well.

Stop dancing around 53... what exactly is your misinterpretation of my post?

Politesub53 -> RE: So what will the purists call this these... lentil burners??? (11/9/2010 1:55:09 AM)

I wasnt dancing around, I hadnt heard of the term rice burners. I was wondering though if you had read your own link properly and it is obvious that you havent. Far from outsourcing HD are making all the parts in the US, then shipping them to India for assembly and sale to the Indian market. Since India is the second fastest growing nation for bike sales ( China is the fastest ) then the idea makes sense, both for HD and the US economy.

flcouple2009 -> RE: So what will the purists call this these... lentil burners??? (11/9/2010 4:58:04 AM)

Did you actually read the article?  I think your confused about what outsourcing is.

Let's see, all of the parts are still made in the US.  Then the parts are shipped to India where the bikes that are going to be sold in India will be assembled.  All for the purpose of reducing the tariff about 80%.  This in turn allows more bikes to be sold which benefits the people in the US making the parts.

Your not going to be buying an India assembled bike in the US.  Except for trying to make fun of Harley enthusiast, what's your point?

India has a thing for outdated technology. I don't understand it myself, but in a land of steam trains, Austin Ambassadors and Enfield Bullets, I think HD will feel right at home. [:D]

You don't really know much about Harleys, do you?

RML, neither of them know much about railways either, India hauls 80% of its stock with electric locos.

In what way does that make my original statement inaccurate?

Like I said, you don't really know much about Harleys, or motorcycles in general for that matter, do you?

The Japanese companies have spent the last twenty years copying Harley-Davidson designs.

Look at the models being offered by Honda and Kawasaki, they look pretty similar to designs Harley has used for years.  And they are powered by that outdated v-twin motor.  Imagine that!

But let's talk about the V-Rod:

First Ride: 2002 Harley-Davidson VRSCA V-Rod - Motorcycle.com

[image]http://www.motorcycle.com/images/content/Review/vrodtitlet.jpg[/image] According to Harley, the V-Rod is "the first member of a new family of performance custom motorcycles." The motor that powers this first of a new generation is the much rumored water-cooled engine that was inspired by the factory's VR 1000 Superbike racing effort and received assistance from a little Stuttgart company named Porsche. Displacing 1130 cubic centimeters (69 cubic inches) via its over-square 100 x 72 millimeter (3.94 x 2.83 inch) bore and stroke, the new motor manages to make 115 horsepower (claimed, at the crank) at 8,250 rpm before moving on to a 9,000 rpm red line. There's even a lofty 11.3:1 compression ratio helping things along within the confines of the cast iron cylinder liners. Again, this is not the Harley you expected.

Honda and Kawasaki can see there is a market for reliable fashion-antique lookie-likes. So that's what they do. But their serious machines are light-years ahead. Light years.

Up until a few years ago, I was riding a 400cc, 4 cylinder, 4 stroke machine which could do 0-60 in under 4 seconds, topped out at about 130mph, red-lined at 16,000rpm and could go around corners as well. Unbelievably, the bike I am talking about is now 20 years old. There's just no comparison.

But some people like a comfy old armchair - that's fine, too. But I don't want a sports armchair. If I want a proper bike, then I have to turn to the Japanese.

You're right.

There is no comparison.

Try not to let that 400 cc's get the best of you.

hertz -> RE: So what will the purists call this these... lentil burners??? (11/10/2010 1:54:09 PM)

That's fine. 400 Japanese cc is all it takes to piss all over a Harley of any capacity. Fact.

Who's laughing now?

No you won't.

That 400cc moped just can't keep up.

It doesn't matter if it can or not. Your Harley is the same as any other Harley - put a corner in the way, and it's dead in the water.

Hey, you take your drag bike and I'll even race you to the shop on a moped. First back home with a four-pack wins.
