That this coming Thursday the 11th of November is Veteran's day. I was very lucky to have served entirely during peace time (4 May 1977 to 11 Apr 1983) and never had to face the fear or horrors of combat. Those men and women that did though are the one's that deserve our heartfelt thanks, and are the people I think of as "veterans". I prefer to think of myself as a guy that "just did his time". Please don't forget to thank those you know that have seen combat, and if they are willing to share their stories, listen, and most of all do not judge.
I also would hope that everyone can watch HBO this coming Thursday night to see James Gandolfini's new documentary "Wartorn 1861 - 2010".
He addresses the "unseen" wounds that every combat veteran suffers, and the consequences of the benign neglect of military mental health issues.
