BY GOD!!!!! CAPITALISM AT ITS FINEST!!!!

GM posted 6% profit. They are running out a global IPO. Seems like the government is better at running business than given credit for.

I suspect the american people will see a little windfall from that, Hey!  Don't we own that company?

Additionally, with the TREASURY influxing dollars into the economy, our goods are going to cost less overseas, as well as business and banks sitting on a pile of cash here at home, looks to be that we are loaning the money for people to buy from us.

Good to get some other countries in our debt rather than the other way round.  I see that all the guys  like Korea and  Indonesia are whining about that.......

So, when the debt reduces and the revenues rise lets insure that the democratic portions of that are withdrawn from the claims of the republicans.

I see the stock market is sliding down, thats one we are going to have to lay on republicans, since several of our insightful posters claimed the runup was due to them.

Let's see what they do.

Not remembering exactly - but didn't we LOAN them the money interest free and they used the shares as COLLATERAL.   If it is collateral, then we wouldn't be entitled to dividends.

If they dont cash out their 60% in shares before say; 2015 or so maybe 2020, which would be a prudent holding period, I fail to see how we wouldn't make a profit.

if we owned the shares I would agree.   But if they are collateral, then it would be like any other zero interest loan like you have on your house, car, etc (except for the interest  lol)  then we only get dollar for dollar back

No, I am sure that the government took shares as collateral in the stake.  Meaning they own the shares and can sell at the market as they please.

quote:

The earnings per share figure for the quarter was adjusted for a three-for-one stock split approved by GM's board last week in advance of the initial public offering.

Its already split.

quote:

In the stock sale, three of GM's four owners - the U.S. government, Canadian and Ontario governments and a union health care trust - will sell 365 million shares, or about a quarter of the company's outstanding common stock, for between $26 and $29 a share. The IPO will raise about $10 billion for the three owners and allow the largest, the U.S. government, to reduce its stake in the company from 61 percent to just over 40 percent.

We will hold 40%, which i see as a huge bonus.

quote:

The U.S. Treasury will sell 264 million shares and will make about $7 billion if the shares sell in the middle of the $26 to $29 price range. The Canadian governments and union trust are expected to make about $3 billion.

Something you will never hear politicians admit too... the fact that the "bailout" actually made money.

We are, after all, capitalists, not socialists.

Yeah, this drumming up trade and hanging out at the reflecting pool at the Taj Mahal at the tune of 200 billion an hour is just a cover for him to sell us out to the Moozlims in Kenya.

Well, since GM has been in Mexico since 1935 seems to me you nutsuckers havent ever done shit.

That being said, GREAT!!!!!  Now you nutsuckers can put your bullshit rhetoric to work.  Drop taxes for GM and have them bring all those 390 jobs back to the US.  (they won't)

Immelt enters the discussion how?  Something like Haliburton running off to Moozlim Land while their CEO was Vice President?  Anything like that at all?

GM now has more workers working outside the US than inside. Why did not China and European countries bail it out? GM increasingly turns its US factories into into car assembly plants instead of manufacturing. Besides, they pay no US taxes. [ http://www.stockmarketdigital.com/sectors/nasdaq-usa/gm-can-avoid-federal-taxes-50-billion-profits ]. So, what are we actually looking at?  Is it a merger of big business and the government (commonly known as fascism) against people? GM passed 802,000 for presidential campaign in 2008 (52% Democrat). Not surprisingly Obama is a co-conspirator in destroying US economy.

So tell me, O Oracle....

Which do you think should have happened? Let them go down the tubes--for which there's an argument, but at the cost of one hell of a ripple effect, from jobs to capacity? Or have Obama wave his voodoo-dick and make the world go away, back to the way things were before we invented ships and caravans?

Or perhaps face reality, that the automobile market is flooded, with more cars than drivers (literally)?

The Chinese will sooner or later introduce a fuel efficient car for 1/3 to 2/3 of what autos cost now, and cash-strapped consumers squeezed at the pump will buy them in droves, hurting even Honda and Toyota.

Now, a company could say, "Gosh, WE could make cars like that!" and get going....or complain that the economy isn't favorable. Which do you think represents a company successful for the future?

Beyond that, your rant is crap--we have a limited time stake, on which it's long been known we'd likely see a good return (if not the kind we perhaps should have), and which doesn't even begin to rise to the government involvement in industry we've seen in earlier decades of our history.

The sky may remain where it is, totally nonplussed over who's in the White House.

But then, it hasn't yet heard your wisdom.
