...how much of it do you do?

I was out with some kinky friends, and we were discussing a possible idea for a scene. One the way home I started jotting down ideas, because it's probably going to take a while for everyone's diaries to sync right and I didn't want to forget.

I covered four pages before the train stopped.

I'm not usually a planner-I belong to the 'bring everything you can think of, figure out what you want when you want it' school of thought. I don't think I've ever planned a kinky activity in any sort of detail. I've never done needleplay or anything like that where you *need* to plan ahead. But I know people who plan everything in meticulous detail-for them half the fun seems to be in the anticipation, the organisation, the contingency plans for their contingency plans...

This potential scene has made me wonder: how much planning do you lovely ladies (and gents) tend to do?

I think each person inspires me a bit differently than anyone else. When I picture something in my mind with someone new it can often surprise me because it just comes as a natural desire, it just goes from there. So I do think about things to some degree. I won't let myself go too far with it though because I don't want everything programed in my mind. I like to flow with it all. In the moment I may totally change my mind anyway! I like to be inspired. lol

Yet there have been a few times when I made plans to do something, which typically was a longer term thing, step one, step two kind of set up and might be over some course of time. Like a captivity thing or a process of enticements I want to work on him to take him some place with a final goal.

There have been times when I needed to wrap my mind around something new and have played with it in my mind long before I go there. I may need to research something and such. So I guess I am a planner and yet I leave lots of room for the spontaneous. Some of the best times were just hanging out and things evolving.

Um. Practically none! I had a slave that felt slighted if I didn't have it all planned out, but honestly? I make it up as I go along. Sure, I am always messing with bits and pieces, and you know how it is when a few sadists get together, the idea just start fflying...

Sometimes I have a total idea. Sometimes a framework of what I want to accomplish. Mostly...one moment leads to the next.

For play or a particular scene, I'm not much of a planning person.  I am a 'bring everything and decide what the inspiration is going to be when you do it' type.  I don't go for scripts at all, except for what I've got going on in My own head.

I'm completely the opposite when it comes to demos or events.  For every hour that folks see Me in front of them, chances are that there have been 10-12 hours behind the scenes before the presentation ever starts.  Research, hand-outs, community contact, materials, set up, tear down, and anything else that I think that the effort is going to make whatever I'm doing a success.

I'm a mostly run with it person Myself. Though on 1 or 2 occasions I have planned extensively! Depends on the mood and the situation I think.

Hope all those plans come to fruition OP!

I am both. Sometimes I'll put together a framework in my head, other times I just go with whatever comes to mind at the time. Sometimes I find I can get too caught up in the planning, and the action never happens because 'the mood isn't right'.

I have found that both work, as long as I am open to being flexible. The best scenes we've done, have been when a reaction of Otter's has inspired "Me" to do something clever. He's such a good girlie-boy!

Is there such a thing as backward planning, as in 'Damn, should have brought more dams!'?

Sure, anticipation is carbonating to good hormones!
I have a lovely toychest, so fortunately there's not much that's missing at home, and we can veer where we will, safe in the knowledge there're always spare lube, batteries, and ice, but I do give them a heads-up if I'm in the mood for 'Roman Centurion and the Empress'. Mmmm, greaves . . .
Roadtrips, however, require a degree of planning. And they get to carry the interesting articles through customs. 'It's a purple toy unicorn horn, officer. Made of silicone. With a vibe in the, uh, forehead piece.'

Most of the time, I just improvise my way through life. I love improvising speeches and presentations.

I will say, when I've put some thought into it beforehand, it seems to improve the outcome.

I'll usually just write very, very short notes, sort of like way points and then try to improvise my way from one to another.

If you're involved in a group scenario, there will be some people that function better when their parts are completely planned out to the last detail. It's best to let them stick to their plan when it's their turn or they get very, very frustrated.

Me, I get frustrated when I have to stick to detailed plans.

Ha! Now I have this fantastic mental image of you loading a car with all Lady P's deliciously evil instruments of pain, and getting more and more worried about how it'll all fit....

Thankyou for the responses, everyone-I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who can be a little vague in advance (that's part of where my name comes from). And SthrnCom4t, I know where you're coming from about planning things to the point where they don't happen because of the 'mood'-there are several intricately-planned fantasies I doubt I'll ever act out for that reason.

(Let's just hope this isn't one of them, because it's seriously hot )

It's not pretty sometimes, I'll tell you.

Some of the issue got eliminated when I went through and specifically split the stuff up into certain kits.  The needle play kit, the wax kit, the medical kit, the fire kit, and so on.  These are separate from the regular impact toys that travel along.  (I have certain ones that always go if away from home for play.)  Unless I'm thinking that I'm going to need those, the kits stay home.

I don't really consider that planning though.  Not the way that I thought you meant.  That's more of Me thinking to Myself that I want to do cupping, so we'll take that kit along.

Around here, we look at each other and say "quick, there are no kids in this house for the next hour". You need the luxury of privacy to dream up scenarios.

That really is quite nerdy, VC.    I can just picture your fellow passengers thinking, "Good.  A conscientious student, writing an essay.  Not like a lot of those dissolute yobboes one sees these days who could do with a good wholesome stint in the army to wash out their minds."

I find the way Dommes go about planning scenes to be really fascinating and quite endearing.  So many of them seem to go to classes to perfect techniques, read up on new ideas, buy gadgets and practise the art of using them . . . .  Sometimes I think a lot of what Dommes are about is just another kind of creativity.  Some women like to paint or sculpt; Dommes like to use the bodies and minds of others as their 'canvases'.  Or maybe Dommes are just women who always wanted to be scouts as kids.  (That might explain a lot of the ropes and knots stuff.)

Me, I think that with an established partner (as opposed to a new partner), I'd have lots of ideas about scenarios.  I think it'd be quite satisfying to work out something that 'she' hadn't thought of first, but which suited her and which she'd find exciting.  Certainly, I had a lot of fun doing that with vanilla ex-partners who had sub urges.  I'd expect to get ten times more being the sub of the piece.

It's very true that thw deeper in you are with a person, the easier it is to mess with them!

Oh, I had fun playing 'top', Lady Hib - no denial from me there.  I dug away at my ex's fantasies, got her to relate every erotic dream, till I felt I knew just about every button she had.  Then I'd devise a scenario that'd press them all.  The real pleasure would come when I'd told her the plan and she'd said, "Ooooh, you bastard!" in a slightly breathless voice.

It's not at all the same when one is the sub, I expect.  On the other hand, I have a very strong imagination and I think a Domme might be wasting a valuable resource if she were to fail to exploit it.  And it is just theoretically possible that I might end up knowing at least a bit of what turns her on better than she does herself.

For sure-constructive input is constructive input. Sometimes a partner will come up with the best idea in the universe, and then you get to see them wince as they realise they've just told you how to make their lives even worse in the perfect way...definitely hawt
