Toppingfrmbottom -> It dont look good for our doggie. (11/10/2010 6:34:20 PM)

I took Ginger  poochie in, The vet suspects she has cancer,  she has more than the two lumps I thought she had, she has two on her hind legs, 4 on her chest and one in her stomach, all her limph nodes are swollen and irritated. and either way with radiation  or leaving it alone, her prognoses is dim, they usually last a year once diagnosed even with treatment. If it is cancer we're going to have to put her to sleep before she gets to sick to be happy. Daddy is going to be so devastated and he's barely stable mentally as it is sometimes he struggles on that razor fine wire of feeling good and pits of despair, he barely made it through my dogs death, he blubbered more than I did.  He won't be home till 9 he had martial arts today, and I am glad he'll have his special day out before getting this news. I am dreading breaking it to him.

They did cytology, and a needle aspiration an they will tell me in a few days what they know.

I am so upset with the vets at cherry creek I had her in 3 months ago because her eyes looked bloody red an the doc assured me she was fine, and she's not fine, the blood vessels in her eye are swollen and irritated.

I did go get her toenails painted today and she looks beautiful, so that's nice.

* finding a warm spot to hide with my blankie and my stego and contemplate what's coming down the bend maybe.

We never get to keep them long enough, do we?

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: It dont look good for our doggie. (11/10/2010 7:21:24 PM)

No, we don't. I had my cockerspaniel  clear from about 1 to 19, but  many of those years we were separated, and I still feel I would give almost anything to have kept him. Alas the best i could do was send him off gently. We don't know for sure it's bad but that's the first thing he said upon feeling them..

When they give you 'that look' It's time to do what they trust you to do. I've had to do it and it hurts worse each time.

TFB, I'm sorry to hear that the vet thinks it may be cancer, let's hope that the tests are negative and it's something else. But even if it is the worst, I know that you are strong enough to see it through, no matter how difficult, and I know that you can be strong for your daddy. (((Hugs)))

How old is the dog?

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: It dont look good for our doggie. (11/10/2010 7:51:26 PM)

Big big hugs for you TFB & for your Daddy too. It's really hard when a pet gets ill. You want to do everything you can to take away the pain & the suffering & sometimes the best that you can do is know when she gives you that look that Hilly talked about. I've had to help several over & it never ever gets easier.

Thank you Rosie, I haven't given up any hope yet that it's not something sinister, And I will be Daddies rock just as he's mine sometimes.

I dread telling him, for a brief moment I had a fantasy of not telling him till I knew for sure, but that's wrong. He'll come home I will have the bed clear for him so he can get in bed and get comfy and I will tell him and then try my best to comfort him as he tried his best to comfort me when it was my dog I was grieving.

I'm just glad he had a happy hopefully evening at martial arts. Maybe it'll help things go a bit better.

With my cockerspaniel, I knew his health was failing because, yes, like you said I had tons of tests done and heart sonograms and stuff, all showing worsening signs of illness. The day I got his diagnosis as terminal  because  he was so sick he couldn't hardly walk and was pale and anemic looking and acting he was baaaaaaaaaaad, when I p icked him up to hug him close he didn't growl or kick, something he would normally do if he had any fiest left in him, and he was limp as a rag doll,  this instinct that something was seriously wrong just slid through my heart.. I only wish I had him put to sleep here at home, so his last minutes wouldn't of been a cold table wrapped in a blankie. Fortunatly he wasn't terrified of the vets so it wasn't traumatic for him, he was to fucked up to care anyway.

With Ginger if we have to make that choice I want her here at home, Vets just freak the shit out of her an I don't want her last minutes to be horrible. Either do it at home or have her sedated before the big final shebang.

She is 10 maybe 11. Not so very old  even for doggie years.

Plan B.

Hunt down at the shelter- for a look alike double- then when it is time- switch them- but do not tell daddy.

he will never notice.

Thank you Pam, Ironically Ginger doesn't like cats cause they picked on her in lake county but she's not rude enough to refuse someone's regards, cat or not:)

That's so sad. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

My condolences, it's always a hard time.  As much as we love having them around and hate to see a family member go just remember to do what is best for her.
