Maybe I was stupid. I got (nearly legal) copy of Office 1997 Pro. This shitbox the olman bought came with a trial of 2003, and it's mine now. So I decided to install my old Office on it, hell it works for me. (fast too) But there was something wrong with the files (installed from a thumbdrive) and it didn't take. OK I have to uninstall it and try again with a better source, no problem. Or so I thought/think ? Of course I uninstalled everything that even smelled like 2003 first. But later the thing goes dead. Won't boot at all. Doesn't even turn the monitor on. Let it boot all night, finally the monitor is on in the morning but displaying nothing. Rebooted once more and the safemode screen is up, and it's defaulted to start Windows normally. It ran, I got online and after ten minutes or so it bluescreens on me. Among the usual stuff it says "Check video adapter". Think this is hardware or software ? Should I try safemode and uninstall 97 ? Problem here is if it didn't install correctly it might not uninstall. I'd hate to use the restore disk. Would a system restore point do the trick or should I just throw the disk in and suck it up - get back to it and get all my preferences set ? Or is it more likely a hardware problem ? I know PCs are wierd like that, but a word processor turning off the monitor ? Just trolling for some input here. This is a few year old emachine running XP MCE. There is one piece of hardware disabled, a TV/video capture card. Other than that it's been fine. T
