Only been to Cuba twice, a bit far to fetch cigars ;) And Andorra, despite everything being cheap there, no desire to ever go again...

Zurich airport is good for buying cigars (if you know what you want), or Italy, Austria and Germany, not much experience in France.

Indeed, it's a shit-tip, as I said. Awful, sterile place, sort of like a grubbier version of Switzerland. But it's cheap, and there's a cigar shop there that's like an Aladdin's cave of goodies. So I drive over the mountains (quickly), stock up, and fuck off.

An intelligent person wouldnt have to guess.

You make quite a few assumptions. The fact that religious people cannot be intelligent. Im sure you do realize how wrong you are in that assertion.

The OP is from Ohio. How do i know? I didnt have to assume, or guess, i merely looked at his profile. Again, the intelligence over the guessing game.

quote:

it is impossible to say anything intelligent or meaningful about something which is supposed to be omnipitant, and omnipresent

Funny, this argument always leaves out the ability for free will.

That's because it has absolutely nothing to do with free will, and there you go you see I made an intelligent guess about the OPs origins and I was right, WooHoo, how did you know? I hear you cry, well its easy really, only Americans get uptight about atheists.

no one is upset over an atheist or a religious person. Again, your assumptive nature is showing.

Now, you spoke of a god who is all seeing, all knowing... and the typical line that follows is "but he allows all this bad to happen". That is where free will comes into play.

would have thought with all your proclaimed intelligence even you would understand that. "Guess" i was wrong. lol

It's funny, I consider religion to be such a personal thing and don't understand why people have the need to push their views on others, be they atheists or religious, when it comes down to it, nobody can be absolutely sure, atheism is a belief just like theism, my personal stance is that I am agnostic, it is impossible to know if there is a god (or not), so why on earth should I get upset if somebody believes that there is a god or somebody believes there isn't?

As long as they are not trying to ram their religion down my throat, it's live and let live and if you believe one way or the other isn't going to change anything for me, it might make for some interesting discussions, but then there will always be the odd idiot popping up who'll claim that he or she knows the absolute truth, and usually they can't back it up.

I agree, either way, at this point, neither side can be "proven". The assumptions on both sides are staggering. Just like you dont like having religious views pushed upon you, imagine the religious person, on this site alone, who comes on daily to read threads about how religious people are stupid (dare you to ask me how many scientists are religious), insane, insecure, ect ect ect, all because they dont believe as an atheist does, an atheist who cant prove their belief as well.

I should add that that I did a second degree in the Philosophy of Religion... it is impossible to say anything intelligent or meaningful about something which is supposed to be omnipitant, and omnipresent.

I seriously doubt it is possible to have a degree in Philosophy of Religion and not be able to spell "omnipotent" correctly.

I don't do spelling ;-) what i do do is have an interest in why people believe what they do at any given point in time, if you went back a few thousand years you would find that everyone was an animist and attributed animals, rocks and so on with spirits and worshipped them.

Ohh i think they are, there is this problem that a lot of Americans see athiests as the enemy, they hate god or some such nonsense, hating god is called apostacy and that happens when you think god exists but he has something against you or you have something against god, it happens a lot in the old testament. But a lot of people have real problems when they find that someone does not share their religious beliefs, wars start and other bad shit for example.

That's the part I don't get, you see English is my 3rd language but teachers or professors (later at uni) never asked me if I "do" spelling, they simply expected it... And any job application with spelling mistakes tends to get filed away into the rubbish bin...

He didn't make that assumption, that statement is nowhere in his post. You're the one who brought that assumption to the table.

But yes, I do like "manhood enhancers".

I love American muscle cars, but they look really stupid on our smaller, British roads.

They also tend to be bought, here at least, by idiots.

But I absolutely adore them, and if I ever end up living back in the states I'm having one ... Challenger, Charger, or Mustang ... or Z28, or ... oh WTF, I'll have all of them

HA, I think they look just as stupid as Chelsea tractors in the middle of a city...

If I knew what a Chelsea tractor was I might be offended.

4 wheel drives in the city center, aka Land and Range Rovers which seem to be very popular in Chelsea (London area) for mom's who do such overland expeditions as to drive the kids to school or go to the supermarket...

I pity them; for they unknowingly or knowingly shake their fists in His face, the most unpardonable sin.

I am particularly troubled by an online argument I had with one, he was a decade older and felt a certain superiority to me, as a man, and I must admit he wasn't entirely unjustified in that assessment. His was a salty, earthy intellect, unlike my somewhat elitist one.

But I was not the power he eventually had to answer to for his outright refusal, despite taking him painstakingly through Pascal's Wager, despite all my reasoning, and yes, finally, pleading. Had I known the man offline, I'd have happily thrown him against a wall and BEGGED him to reconsider his position.

It's a bitter feeling to know I tried, and a man now burns for my failure.

What are your first two? I must say, you write amazingly for a foreigner but you do mix US and UK English too much to be either....

At least you don't have Hummers roaming around taking up three parking spaces.
