SAMHAIN09 -> What are your thoughts on trolls? (11/13/2010 4:49:31 PM)

I personally think they can be funny but I know when it's time to well you know apply the needed discipline. [sm=blasted.gif]

Raechard -> RE: What are your thoughts on trolls? (11/13/2010 5:01:30 PM)

You can't discipline trolls they don't care, wasted effort.

Yes and whats worse is that Cannibal trolls never stop NEVER!!!

Raechard -> RE: What are your thoughts on trolls? (11/13/2010 5:07:32 PM)

Yeah them are the worst for sure.

WyldHrt -> RE: What are your thoughts on trolls? (11/13/2010 5:13:16 PM)

A little tough and stringy, the average troll does best in a crock pot set on low for 12 hours. Add a nice bottle of spicy BBQ sauce for better flavor.
Wha? This isn't a recipe thread?? [8D]

Some are funny, and entertaining to bait right back, some not so much. It's the reactions and responses from those who take them seriously that I find most interesting.

Case by case.

DomImus -> RE: What are your thoughts on trolls? (11/13/2010 8:08:15 PM)

Trolls don't bother me with their threads. It's easy to click the x and move on. These morons with their cutesy off topic one liners in the middle of a good discussion really piss me off sometimes. Asshats.

KatyLied -> RE: What are your thoughts on trolls? (11/13/2010 8:09:04 PM)

Trolls bring people together in their anti-troll efforts.

Musicmystery -> RE: What are your thoughts on trolls? (11/13/2010 9:00:56 PM)

They keep the riff-raff out from under bridges.

BurntKitty -> RE: What are your thoughts on trolls? (11/13/2010 10:43:58 PM)

They freak me out with their colorful wacky hair & broad smile and unblinking eyes.  They're....clown gnomes!

hertz -> RE: What are your thoughts on trolls? (11/14/2010 3:55:24 AM)

There are no Trolls.

There is 'Trolling' - the deliberate baiting of others for one's own amusement or out of revenge, but almost all of us do that - some of you more than others.

If one wants to argue that a person engaging in Trolling becomes an actual Troll when their Trolling becomes their main mode of engagement, then one has to be able to explain how one knows the Troll is 'Trolling', and not simply 'replying'.

Is a reply from a Troll automatically Trolling?

Or does the judgement about  whether or not a reply is Trolling lie with the recipient of the reply?

How does the recipient know a Troll is Trolling and not replying?

If the judgement of whether or not a person is Trolling lies with the recipient of the Troll reply, then that makes the observation that a Troll is architect of their own Trolling false. A Troll is someone we disagree with enough to call them 'Troll'.

Trolls - what an enigma they are.

Here's a handy dandy guide to internet trolls http://www.flayme.com/troll/#What

This one goes into more detail http://www.flayme.com/troll/angler.shtml

I tend to agree with this quote from the first link...

quote:

Should You Be Concerned?
Usually, no, though fractured funny bones and occasional waves of nausea have been reported.

When a troll become persistent and personal, you may need to consider the possibility that it has fermented into an Internet Stalker - equally pathetic, if not more so - but sometimes requiring weedkiller.

Of course, some trolls are good.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qsbzwm8kMBw&feature=player_embedded [:D]

MercTech -> RE: What are your thoughts on trolls? (11/15/2010 4:05:31 AM)

Sticking fingers in the ears and yelling, "La la la la la"..

I refuse to think on minor demonic vermin and draw them to me or mine!

Tongue firmly in cheek,
Stefan

purepleasure -> RE: What are your thoughts on trolls? (11/15/2010 4:42:13 AM)

My cousin's 4 year old loves them in house cookies.

Troll house cookies.

Actually trolls don't bother me. I have the option of reading threads or not. And posting in threads... or not. I think of trolls like political advertisments, they're a pain in the butt while they're around, but eventually they will go away, even if only temporarily.

Did you ever watch a cat play with a spider?
