This is what I find the most hilarious about these enhanced security measures.

You have airline pilots presenting proper identification, about to board an aircraft where they will be responsible for a hundred or more lives, yet they are are subjected to this nonsense by minimum-wage TSA workers.

The Air Line Pilots Association, which represents 53,000 employees with 38 U.S. and Canadian airlines, said it is working with federal agencies to create an exception for pilots who have been subjected, they said, "to a long line of ever-increasing security measures that have frustrated and burdened.

"Screening airline pilots for the possession of threat objects does not enhance security, because pilots have the safety of their passengers and aircraft in their hands on every flight," said Capt. John Prater, the group's president.

I would not like the x-ray machine.

But then flying at all is such a hastle.    From here to Chicago-  640 miles-  at times it is easier to drive.  The airport at Harrisburg is nice- but it is a hike with confusing roads to get to it-  lots of turns- south is north and that type of thing.

This blog post concerns a guy trying to fly on November 13th.  He refused the "pat-down" after he was told that yes, it would include his genitals, was escorted by police from the area, then told that if he didn't still agree to do the pat-down (before he left the airport) he would face a $10,000 civil penalty fine.  He had his phone on and has video and/or audio of most of the incident.

I doubt that the government would actually go any further on this to get to the fine.  At least I hope they wouldn't.

This is being talked about a lot on another site where we're all getting ready to attend a convention and many of the ones flying in are concerned about how far the pat-down goes on women.

This whole issue it is hard- to know how it will turn out.

Supposedly some of the screenings are slated to make it onto malls- subways and other public areas.

And many of the Pilots carry guns. I wonder what the TSA people do when the electric wand goes off?
