I know some of you have already experienced the seasons first snow...but it was just forecasted we will be hit next week with measurable white stuff.

Don't know if anyone else feels this way..but it makes all the preperation worth while!   The stacking of wood, canning, making sure candles are ready (with matches), the generator is fueled (we loose power about three times a winter)...when I hear "snow"..I want to bar the door and start the fire.    Fall starts the storing of food and water, in a somewhat frenzied haste to get it all done before the first flake hits.

Once it's forecasted, a calmness takes over, we are ready, bring it on.   I wonder if this is how squirrels feel!

Each season brings a different mood and activity. Spring is a heavy cleaning time, everything gets scrubbed, walls, draperies, carpets, furniture..ridding the house of winter and preparing for summer.

Kinda like those squirrels, lol     Perhaps we are not as far from the tree as we think.

Smiles. I'm with you on that feeling Lisa. I have not seen a snowy winter in ages
but I loved the onset of it, and all the crazy yet somehow joyful preparations for it.

We have similar emergency procedures for hurricanes here in Florida.  But we also need an evacuation route in the case of last minute changes with the "cone of error"!
On another note, I miss the snow, and wish you and yours good luck.

After Halloween, I always bust up a pumpkin or two and leave it in the back yard for the squirrels.  C'mon over, Lisa!

[sm=biggrin.gif] Thanks Steven!

If I don't make it to Costco tommorrow to pick up coffee for himself...I may need to hang out in your yard, those squirrels better share!

I make no particular preparations for winter, its just part of life and the snow/cold doesn't modify my daily activities (unless it gets really REALLY cold...-30 or so), at most I leave for work a little early if its snowing heavy, but other than that nothing.

I left the land of snow and cold in 2004, and haven't looked back!  My blood must be sludge from living in upstate NY all my life, then spending winters in Buffalo, NY, and Chicago, IL, and all points in between.  Right now, I'm in Florida, it's 72 degrees, I have my windows wiiiiide open and getting all sorts of fresh air.  I can hear the A/C unit of the apartment below me kicking on, and at night, when the temp drops below 55, they kick the heat on enough that I'm hot up in my place!  Fortunately, the bedroom stays cool, and I also open the window in there.  The kittehs may crawl under the blankets if they get cold, but I'm perfectly content at 50 degrees in my bedroom.  I'm still walking around in t-shirts when everyone else is all bundles up in coats, hats, scarves and gloves.....I get some strange looks, I'll tell ya!

Snow was fun when I was a kid and we had snowmobiles, and sledding on the huge hill in town was a great way to kill an afternoon.  Snow days from school were the best, until you realized you had to make them up in the spring...bummer!  But after having to work in it, drive in it, deal with it year after year, it got old fast!  Personally, if the closest I ever get to snow again is seeing it on the Weather Channel, I'll die happy!

I didn't get much (any) canning this year but I have a few weeks worth of food put aside between my pantry and freezer.

There is nothing like the change of seasons to help keep life interesting!

This might explain why strangers keep throwing acorns at me when I go outside.

Not exactly a bad thing, but that husky Acorn representative left quite the bruise.

All my canning is done. Had some great green beans this year. taters and the like. Wood stacked and using as we speak.
