quote:
ORIGINAL: LaTigresse I really, with all my little black heart, couldn't give a flying fuck what anyone that only knows me via the net, says or thinks about me. That's admirable, but I'm not as strong as you perhaps, or at least I'm not as successful at achieving the "couldn't give a flying fuck" part. Not long ago, someone I have never met made a post here that accused me of some things, and, instead of not caring, I had a negative emotional reaction to it. I realized that was unhealthy, so I stopped posting, or logging in, for a while. I think most people will care what online strangers think about them, especially if they invest a lot of their social interaction time on an online message board or chat room. For example, I bet I could make you smile by complimenting you. And yet, you and I have never met in real life, though I'll be driving by your place (yet again) in a couple days. I think the best course of action is to steer clear of internet (and real life) drama, and to recognize when you are being drawn into it, and steer away double-quick then. "Don't care what they say," might be advice that almost nobody can follow, but, "Don't react to what others say," is something everyone can do.
