ORIGINAL: Daddysredhead I was kind of creeped out by how close they let the kitty and the people get, too. I wouldn't have been so calm. Letting gators get that close to kids borders on criminally irresponsible. I don't mind working with them close up, but I know what the hell I'm doing. I also know what a crocodilian that size is capable of doing with its jaws, and how fast they can lunge in to do it. They aren't for kids to play with, or near. Those weren't full adults, but you're looking at 400 to 500 PSI of crushing power, and behaviorally they can't tell the difference between the food that they've learned is being offered to them by a human hand, and the hand itself or other body parts. There are ways to socialize them so that they can make the distinction, but idiots feeding them is not that way. There's also ways to adjust the attitudes of habituated gators without hurting them so they spook at people like a normal wild gator should. Unfortunately they don't stay adjusted if idiots keep feeding them and teaching them that they should approach humans closely for food. [:@]
