It is amazing the ridicule people are getting here for pointing out the obvious absurdity of such meaningless invasiveness, and what lengths are gone to in attempt to rationalize ham-fisted ineptitude by the TSA.

Ben Gurion International airport in Tel Aviv does not use  invasive scanners at all and no public pat downs. If they have a legitimate suspicion, whatever form of interrogation takes place in a room or area for that purpose, not in public.

There's just no substitute for actually knowing what you are doing.

If that's the only way you see it, fine, but the reality is that there are quite a lot who were not yelling for blood after 9/11 who take issue with it. Artificially confining the argument does not confine everybody else's thinking, tough as that may be to accept.

Don't get me wrong. I don't think it is a good thing. In fact, we should take out all of security and just let things flow. More of a chance to get knocked out of the sky by a storm or pilot or plane malfunction than you do of getting a terrorist.......

I -loved- riding Amtrak, most comfy trip I've had. Much more leg room than airline seats. Unfortunately the only decent schedules are in the NE, for the most part.

I'm just sayin' ... Israel has a method that obviously works, and they have much more reason to be paranoid. No invasive scanners, no pat downs at all, much less groping. This is just typical American "not invented here" ignorance of methods that are already proven elsewhere.

Like the health care thing, for example.

If it doesn't bother you, that's OK, and there are more than a few others I'm sure not too bothered by it. But what about others? My 78 yr. old (at the time) aunt was taken out of line and patted down in public ("normal" type, not the groping recently introduced) and she was horrified at the ordeal. Then, as now, there was no criteria other than randomness, no suspicious behaviour, etc. She was dumbfounded, and my uncle was quite upset and, even though one of the gentlest and even demeanored persons I know, the airline boarders quickly whisked them to the gate to avoid further trouble with security. If that happened today he might likely have been tazered and arrested (he's only 5'5").

They've driven the 650 mile trip twice since that incident. They won't fly anymore.

We have to think of others' concerns, not just our own.
