Looks like there is going to be a 2 year ban on earmarking.   Personally I think this is a great idea.   If nothing else, it will change the way business is done - one way or another   lol

Can't wait to see all the smaller red states figure out that they are going to get Fucked in this deal. Gotta watch out for what you wish for. This will die a quick death especially when that rube Rand Paul figures out that kentucky ain't going to get shit anymore.

Hey DYB   who started the Red/Blue thing?   Seems like someone got their colors all messed up.   Blue means freindly forces and Red means the Enemy of the United States (all of it)   So when describing whatever the red thing is supposed to mean, they are saying that everyone (100% of those living in the states that are red) are enemies of the United States and therefore we should expand the military and take the states over?   A really dumb idea.

Still can't wait to see that idiot Jim Demented figure out that SC is a small state and the bigger states aren't going to include his "projects" into their bills.

Haven't had a drink since January 26, 1969    How about you?   Still afraid to answer the question if you know or say you don't know?   Cause I sure don't.   And the BS just is serving to lessen your thoughts in my opinion because of the personal attack.

So, if say a 30 Trillion Dollar bill is passed under the Mississipi flyways act, with the intent being to cleanup the Missisppi and dam this spring (cuz you fuckers are gonna get flooded) what can happen with no ear marks is that money can go to fund the war in Iraq, cuz it isn't going to be ear marked for the missippi flyways thingie, because of rules.

Or maybe they will have to prioritize the what needs to be done based upon need.   I am pretty sure it will get thrown into the hopper tho.   if not, would be wrong.

I would like to take this opportunity to announce that I am starting a new charity, Shirts for CollarMe Members.

You can c-mail on the other side but basically the goal is to provide for the shirtless.

You can donate any new or used shirt you have to help out the shirtless.

I do think earmark reform is important.I don't think we another bridge to nowhere or give Joe Bozo a stadium in his name. However,I don't think doing away with all earmark's is the way to do it.Some earmark's serve a very important fuction's.When there's need to be a new VA hostpital for our veteran's,that come's from earmark's.Earmark's can help to reel in job's or help in a cleaning up the Mississippi River..... Perhaps's a better review of the earmark's is a better idea.Shed some light on earmark's and let them see just what it is they are voting on.Only support certain earmark's that really will make a postive impact on a community.

Charles   I agree some earmarks are important but I believe the importance of this ban is to make those important things come to the surface and be important in their own right, not because it makes points for someone.   If it is needed it is needed.   I remember when the DOD fought against the earmark to have a bunch of fighter aircraft that weren't needed purchased.  But it made big points for the politician's district.   Seems like that was in the 80's   not sure.   but ever since then I have hated them.   Lets get back to doing the publics business for the good of the public not the good of some politician or lobbyist

In 99% of the world, red is socialist and blue is conservative so I don't even know how they got started on this.

Thanks Elisabella.   This never made much since to me.   Still doesn't but at least I kinda got an explanation  lol  To me it would be better to indicate a state as republican leaning, democrat leaning, libertarian leaning whatwever.   Assigning colors that are used internationally that mean other things never made much since.

You know, Lots of people make stupid comments publically, not one has asked me to put on a shirt (not even privately so they wouldn't be embarassed).   I would hope that is because people respect that I am old and don't care or that they just love the public attack because of some other issue (unknown to me).  But it seems that public attacks are much more important than the issue.   I thought this was the Politics and Religion forum.   Not attack me forum because of my desire to look the way I look in real life instead of something that I am not.

FR

quote:

The terms "red states" and "blue states" came into use in 2000 to refer to those states of the United States whose residents predominantly vote for the Republican Party or Democratic Party presidential candidates, respectively. A blue state tends to vote for the Democratic Party, and a red state tends to vote for the Republican Party, although the colors were often reversed or different colors used before the 2000 election. According to AlterNet and The Washington Post, the terms were coined by journalist Tim Russert, during his televised coverage of the 2000 presidential election.[1] That was not the first election during which the news media used colored maps to graphically depict voter preferences in the various states, but it was the first time a standard color scheme took hold. Since 2000, usage of the term has been expanded to differentiate between states being perceived as liberal and those perceived as conservative.
