Termyn8or -> PC : hardware or software problem ? (11/17/2010 7:19:23 PM)

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

This is after a faulty installation of Office. I have already tried system restore to no avail.

Is this one of the times I need to get the restore disk out ? I hate that, because I do some customization to the OS. (details on request, but it is nothing bad, I don't even go into the registry)

What is the nonpaged area ? If it is on the disk and the restore point doesn't fix it, that seems to indicate I will either have to get out the restore disk or that I FUBARed some firmware somewhere.

Any ideas ?

BTW if you think this problem is wierd, I should tell you my life's story. If it's me it is out of the ordinary to say the least. And no, I don't feel speshul :-)

Have you tried a check/scan disk to find faulty parts of your harddrive?

It crashes before I can do much of anyhting.

It seemingly recovered and I was online, and then the screen went blank and stayed that way. Later it booted up and it came up with BSOD saying something about checking the vidcard. Then it came up with the page fault after another reboot and a system restore back to when I know it worked. It probably would not run scandisk without crashing, which is not a good idea.

It's bad enough I stick the restore disk in (once I find it), but it's even worse if I do that and it doesn't work because all I need is a BIOS flash because some firmware is FUBARed.

There really is too much I don't know about these #$^&* things ! There is a recovery partition but I have no idea how to use it just yet. Maybe I should do that.
