You know the part of our historical document that says all "men" are created equal. Well it seems the GOP really believe it just means MEN, and I'm sure they are really pissed that it does not say White Men, Here is another wonderous vote where the GOP say no to women Today, Senate Republicans voted unanimously against legislation to close the pay gap between women and men. The Senate voted 58-41 against allowing debate on the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would help end discriminatory pay practices against women. It had already passed the House. More than 45 years after passage of the Equal Pay Act, the pay gap shockingly persists with women still earning on average 77 cents to every man’s dollar. According to the National Women’s Law Center, “This persistent pay gap translates to more than $10,000 in lost wages per year for the average female worker.” The gap is even worse for women of color: African-American women earn 61 cents and Latinas earn 52 cents for every dollar a white non-Hispanic man earns. Also, it is now 82.7 percent, not 77 percent. The gap is closing, and it took a decade for that extra 5% to show. Analysis of the census shows it is likely due to older workers that have been working at different pay rates from many years past. In comparing also the life choices made by genders, factoring in that genders handle having families differently, the pay difference is about 5-7% at the median level. Understanding this is at the median level, and having further studies and analysis done at the various income levels, would assist in a more in-depth understanding of the problem. It seems too easy to just pass it off to discrimination, but then again, we are Americans and like to take the easy route as a country.

I doubt that I would vote for it because I agree that enforcement is the problem, not a new law. Seems to me that it is basically a waste of congresses time. Find out why the Administration (45 years worth) have failed to enforce existing law.

I'm not really sure I'd vote for it either. Yeah, me neither. And just (who) are those "eligable entities" they're talking about? The usual list of suspects? "Money to be made!" Can't the Congress pass Bills that don't cost anything? Just enforce the current laws on equal pay! I don't suppose that's ever occured to them! "Eligable entities?" Do they mean "brother-in-laws" of Congressmen and Senators? Colleges and unis looking to make more easy bucks off of the Taxpayers? Remember recently deceased Democratic Senator Robert "Sheets" Bird? He wasn't for "equal" anything.

While there is discrimination involved it is more on a cultural and societal conditioning level instead of blatent "women are worth less than men." There are also a whole host of other factors involved. Honestly, passing that act would not really help the underlying issues.

Even though they represent a minority in the Senate it is once again all the GOP's fault. Let's blame the GOP. Let's blame Bush. This is why the Democrats lost contorl of the House. In order for there to be a minority of Democrats, there would have to be at least ONE VOTING 'NAY' on the vote. Since all of them voted in favor, it shows your understanding of reality and facts. The Democrats did not lost control of the House because of this reasoning. Large corporations, thanks to a US Supreme Court ruling earlier in the year, allowed them to make contrabutions to elections for the Republican Party, through shadow organizations. Organizations that can be 'here today and gone tommorow' or reform under a different entity. Each of which, funnelling enormous amounts of cash in to GOP coffers. I'm sure in a few months, we'll hear some of these examples come to the surface, and the sort of 'honest' and 'decent' individuals that make up those elected from the GOP. How do you conservatives do it? Living in a fantasy world? The laws of science, reality, economics, and even common sense are simply thrown out in favor of complete insanity?
