Maybe I think too deep, I have been accused of it, but it's what comes I find when one has learned art related critical analysis and those old bastards the film critics who I used to think were full of shit, I now see what they are saying. But the film that caused me to write this question was Avatar and I found it very similar in it's hidden message to what critics have already described as the Emerald Forest, Fern Gully and films of that nature, but might also go on to include the film the day after tomorrow and other natural disaster type movies that have more than a passing reference to man made activities as a possible cause. It is like to me the film makers are not only preying on our insecurities, but seeking to reinforce those insecurities, create a real tangible thought that makes people think again. Avatar was such that the beauty of the land was being destroyed by corporate venture, the quest for wealth and nothing will get in it's way, to satisfy the minority who worship the all powerful money god. The other thing the film highlighted was the military power available to corporate venture, does that not bear any resemblance to what we know of the world in reality ? But with Avatar, I detect a few themes that appeal to my mindset and fears. At one time, but I suppose still is, most movies were about the shadow side of US government and how they are fucking over the people. Others were creating impressions that hey did more or even less in the worlds conflicts And finally you have the religious almost instruction in some like I believe Battlefield Earth although I did not detect this myself, and Enemy of god, the latter if you view the various forums like IMDB reveals a lot of hatred and reference to 9/11 due to that movie, I guess some not accepting a different interpretation to what is the common even questionable thought. So, myself I find I am also susceptible to what I believe is the hidden something in movies and because of that, only certain movies are on my replay list, so far, these include Dune,Star Trek -the voyage home,Final Fantasy- the spirits within, Lord of the rings and now Avatar But if these movies appeal to my senses in such a way that I can watch them at any time, what of others, do they similarly have a viewing list of favourites for whatever reason. So, if anyone has a favourite viewing list of movies, may I ask what they are and why you like them, is it you see them as they are or detect an underlying current that appeals to you in some way ? And there the possibility that certain movies what they inform of could become religious if not a religion in themselves.
