But do you really need a "How to" guide on how to spank?

Yes. Because a paddle should not be applied to the tailbone. And unfortunately there are people who don't know what or where the tailbone is.

Coccyx is the one word I can never spell properly. No matter how many times I've written it, I always end up having a dozen tries, know it's not right, then google it. Although this time I discovered it's from an ancient Greek word for cuckoo. How cool is that?

An ex of mine fell down stairs and broke hers. Apparently, it never heals properly. In other words the break eventually heals, but it’s always left with cracks in it which don't.

Fast reply - Could  a "how to" section could possiby open CollarMe and people who post up to legal issues if misinformation was given and someone was hurt or worse?  Who would be responsible for policing the information that was posted and making sure it was accurate?

I would think that would be true.

And, further, you can't prevent idiots from misconstruing things either, added to which most BDSM practices (almost all I can think of) include a degree of personal restraint (restraint in this context meaning restraining oneself from going over the top, or doing too much), so the bottom line would be that an idiot can fuck just about anything up, even if given clear, relatively unambiguous instructions.

Stupid people will always find a way of getting it wrong, even if handed an owner’s manual and a set of 8 x 10 glossy, colour, photographs. Better by far to ask in forum ...

... and then plough through the 50,000 replies, flame wars, wisdom and idiocy, and decide not to bother

It's a very good possibility.  I happen to think that is the very reason that included in every non-fiction book about BDSM comes with some form of legal disclaimer.  That any activities contained within the book should be done at the reader's own risk.  Unless I'm mistaken, somewhere in the pages of all of the ones that I own, the authors recommend learning in person from experienced players.

A funny little bit of trivia that might apply here.  I'm not going to dig through the bookshelf to quote chapter and page, but John Warren specifically says in "The Loving Dominant" that he wrote the book to make money.  I would have to think that he didn't want folks to get the impression that he went through all of that work (which is what a "How To" section would boil down to here) out of the goodness of his heart.

But a spanking is usually administered with the bare hands, not with a tool, with a paddle it would be a paddling...

You could get lots of people who liked doing it to form a group, so that anyone who wanted to experience it could just contact them and try.

You could call it a paddling pool!

If I said it, it means Fuck That.  Peon saying it, it probably means Full Time.

Has anyone ever suggested a section here on the boards on "How to" or an "Education" area on everything from how to use a flogger to tips on giving a good pedicure?

I think that is a great idea. To throw in another idea for the mix, I began to put something together like this on FL where one cannot search for terms. I was creating it to be a sticky with an alphabetical list of topics (as headings) with links to discussions that discussed technique or risk for that topic. Because the original poster or forum moderators can edit the original post indefinitely there, I had a way for the list to be constantly updated with new topics and new discussions about a topic alread listed.

Cheers,

Sea

Perhaps a wiki type layout would be superb for this idea, not as part of the forums but another part of collarme. In which a thorough "How to" on the subject or educational rant and then under that a postable suggestion list, where those with experience from CM can state random helpful hints, with a ranking system for those things that are most helpful.
