Senate update: Dems say new machines found in Buffalo
Friday, November 19, 2010 at 11:22 AM by Jimmy Vielkind

Two new voting machines were located last night in Buffalo, according to Sen.-elect Mike Gianaris, a Democratic attorney helping his party’s efforts in ballot counting.

...

Democrats must win Thompson’s seat, as well as seats held by Sens. Suzi Oppenheimer and Craig Johnson, to maintain a 32-30 majority in the chamber.

Move along, nothing to see here ....

Them Democratic zombie voters are just slllloooowwww ....

Firm,

I'm missing your point here.

Unlike states like Florida, in NY, election commissions are equally represented by Democrats and Republicans, who, yes, watch each other closely. That also slows the process in tight races, especially when the apparent loser refuses to concede (which is fine, but that's the reason it has to drag out to the bitter end).

It's also NY's first run with new machines in a major election. In the past, everything was about the machine (the large lever machines). Now, with scanners, it's about the memory card, but even if the memory card is flawed (blank), the machine has secured those paper ballots that can then be fed into another machine or counted by hand. In this case, we're not talking about a lot of ballots--the machines can hold 4000, but most districts are closer to 2000.

Legal processes can drag on. That's the issue. However, this week Andrew Cuomo, as Attorney General, filed a motion in court to expedite the process. This was granted, and those races decided soon.

Not that it will matter much. The Senate will still be tightly divided, with a few independent minded senators changing sides here and there. And the Legislature itself will still remain dysfunctional.

My main point was political humor, MM.

A secondary point is that it seems highly suspicious that, more than a week after the election, and where (as you put it) they "watch each other closely", that two entire machines just "show up".

I've been a poll worker, and while I'm sure the exact procedures are different for each state, the controls implemented in the polling places I worked simply could not allow machines to "disappear" and then conveniently "show up", especially by reps of the party which is behind in a close race.

If something like that happened, jail time would be the norm.

This is also shades of the Minnesota Senate race, where it was said some members of Frankens's team "found" some ballots in their car, several days after the election.

Here in NY, where we see the continued play by play, you'll see it's a bipartisan fuckfest, with plenty of rhetoric obscuring who the fuck knows what's actually the case.

Business as usual in NY. But again, the machines are no longer the point, as the electronic results are the key, with the ballots the backup when a recount is forced. This is a change from before, when yes, the physical machines were key.

Whether or not it was true, it still echoes the same.

Yes, we are not after the truth here, that would be vainglorious. That year you remember was the same year that the republicans were sucking each other off in the Airport bathrooms and sticking the Minnesota taxpayers with the law enforcement and judicial bills, which appears to be their method of fiscal conservancy, I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Nope, not when you sit there and accuse Minnesota of some nefarious skullduggery in our elections and by and large call the republican Pawlenty administration who oversaw and certified the elections common streetwhores, when they are nowhere near as exemplary as that.

OK, enjoy your silliness.

Neither party is interested in any election in getting a fair count or having a fair process, and you know it (or if not, aren't very perceptive). Hell, starting from redistricting.

They are interested in winning the election, by whatever means they can.

Welcome to your first day in America.
