They are not all Harley riders.

Just the intelligent ones.

This is what religion brings.

Fucking theists. What a waste.

Nice to know im a waste, Dave.

Nice to know you put me on the same level as these freaks who use religion as an excuse.

Aynne88 -> RE: Westboro Baptist Church Cheers Child Deaths (11/20/2010 9:19:46 AM)

Actually Tazzy they had a protest planned here too, in the non redneck blue state Maine, right in the city of Portland, surrounded by art galleries and coffee shops. A bunch of us had planned to go and umm peacefully explain that they are cockroaches, but they cancelled that one to, like two days beforehand. So they appear to be rather ball-less all the way around the country.

Oh and Dave, as another atheist, I hate the non-stop bashing of all Christians, it reminds me of the jingoistic xenophobic attitude this board has at times as well. Not all Christians or (fill in the blank religion) are extremists and I don't like to be seen as intolerant.

So I tend to believe there is a devil and he is at work in that church...at least I hope this is true.

Pinning their despicable behaviour on their imaginary friends is letting them off the hook - the members of the GBC did this; human beings, not some bogeyman from before the age of enlightenment.

So you would not let the brainwashed children off the hook either ...and if children can be brainwashed you think it impossible that adults can't be as well?

I wouldn’t “let them off the hook”; I would approach them as the biggest victims of all in this situation - and accept that they did do wrong, but under the influence and pressure from adults who should have known better. That’s got nothing to do with “the devil” (woooo! Spooky!), and everything to do with the evil that human beings do, then try to pin on something else, so they don't have to take personal responsibility for their actions.

I'll believe in my bogeymen you believe in yours… either is no less powerful.

Mine is not a “bogeyman”; it’s a simple understanding that some human beings are evil, some are insane, and some are a combination of both.

Thanks Aynne

While i certainly understand the disgust atheists have for this "religious" man, im glad some realize that people who hold religious views also find this man disgusting.

Sometimes you have to blame the messenger... especially when he screws up the message.

You're right they're not - just looked again at some pics and you're absolutely right.

Nice to know at least a few of them will be able to make it home without breaking down [;)]

Of course they left. They want to be the center of attention in the media for their protests. They dont want to be in a center for medical attention.

I think they were concerned that it would have been too late for medical attention. There are some sick puppies around here.

pahunkboy -> RE: Westboro Baptist Church Cheers Child Deaths (11/20/2010 9:31:23 AM)

Funny no one has protested one of their funerals.

tazzygirl -> RE: Westboro Baptist Church Cheers Child Deaths (11/20/2010 9:34:44 AM)

I wish the SC would hurry up on their ruling.

I would think Christians would be more miffed at the WBC than anyone. After all they're taking Christian precepts and twisting them for their own evil purposes.

Or, alternatively, the message is wrong because it preaches adherence to dogma, not enlightenment, and operates through a culture of fear and misinformation, as almost all religions do.

But hey, we can agree to differ on that - I think you've seen my views on the subject before, which can be summed up pretty much as "no thank you, but by all means you go right ahead, so long as I don't have to".

pahunkboy -> RE: Westboro Baptist Church Cheers Child Deaths (11/20/2010 9:36:59 AM)

actually the 2 churches I go to try to stay out of other churches business.

it simply never comes up.

tazzygirl -> RE: Westboro Baptist Church Cheers Child Deaths (11/20/2010 9:39:23 AM)

Those are pretty much my views about atheism. However, i do not paint you all with the same brush. Why you feel the need to do so with those who hold a religious view is beyond me.

Is what Phelps is preaching dogma? Many churches and religions accept homosexuals, embrace them in fact. Have you ever seen me speak out against homosexuality?

You speak of enlightenment... where is your own?

What? The gays in the military case?

Strewth, that'd cause the WBC to shit kittens I would think - military and gay? They'd probably spontaneously combust with rage [;)]

No, this is what perversion of religion brings.

Re WBC: Every pixel, every bit of ink of attention they are given is life blood to these people. They have been check-mated at military funerals, and now they have to up the ante to get more air-time. I wish that the WBC were totally ignored (aside from countering their hateful presence) and that their every move wasn't reported in the media.

Also I don't believe we have to blame the devil for the actions of that "church". The capacity for evil is within each and everyone of us. Everyone.

Let's try to face facts here, the vast majority of churches and religions absolutely do not accept homosexuals.

This may help with your Japanese problem:

Motorcycle Breakdown Cover - Motorbike Roadside Recovery

Except, as I've demonstrated several times, the Japanese bikes are by far the more reliable of the 2 types. And I've worked extensively on both. Don't even get me started on Harley electrics. If you look at the breakdown company stats for Harleys vs Japanese bikes in the UK you’ll find Harleys are much, much more likely to let you down.

See here, for example (and these are from the owner's own mouths):

http://news.motorbiker.org/blogs.nsf/dx/2004-09-08101210MWEBMP.htm

The last big group tour we did there were many more Japanese bikes than anything else, but the only breakdowns were 1 Harley, 1 Buell (Harley engine), and a Ducati. Although the Ducati was just a fuse. We even managed to patch up the Buell so it could continue. But the Harley was a basket-case; the bottom end decided it no longer wanted to hide away in the dark, with only a badly machined crankshaft for company, but should instead break out and see something of the world. The results were ... messy.

Let's not do this one again eh? You just accept you’re wrong, sit there in your wrong-ness, and we'll let the rest of them debate the evils of the WBC [;)]
