claree -> "You've signed on using a new computer" (11/20/2010 11:57:36 AM)

I have this odd thing going on.  Every time I click on a news story at my local newspaper (www.sacbee.com) the story will pop up in a new window. Many times (not every time) when I click to close the window, the whole screen will go white, everything will close back to my desktop, and my home page will re-open.

At the same time, Yahoo IM will close, and I'll get a message that says it closed "because you've signed on using a new computer."

I don't know enough about computer to know what this is, but just enough to be paranoid and think something bad is going on.

I have two different virus scanners--McAfee and Windows something, and both say I don't have a virus.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

You may have a virus and because you are using two virus programs they are conflicting with each other.

Is your home page yahoo!
When you open Yahoo mail and are logged in in messenger it throws you out of messenger with that error.

What Seaton's trying to explain is that if you go into your Yahoo Mail, make sure that you aren't signed or being signed into your IM program thru the e-mail.  It's a relatively new feature in the updated Yahoo mail.  It shows up on the left side of the mailbox screen, right above the tabs...it should indicate the sleeping IM little face and OFFLINE.  If you log in, and it says you're online, it will kick you out of your regular YIM screen.  It's possible you're set to autmatically log into YIM thru your e-mail somehow.....check out the help section for the settings.

Pick one virus program and stick with it....also, make sure you only have one firewall running.  The other problem with the screens whiting out and closing back to the desktop is also something I'm having problems with...I've run all sorts of different programs from adware to malware, virus and other stuff.....here's the link to the thread.

Good luck.....and I'm probably even more computer illiterate than you are.....
