There are cat fights, and then there are cat-holic fights...

so if you don't agree with the beliefs of catholics don't be a catholic. If you don't agree with whatever religion's beliefs don't be a part of their religion. Seems simple enough to me.

I said I was raised a Catholic, I did not say that I was a practicing Catholic.

soooo then why all the hoopla about their beliefs? They're not yours. You don't have anything to be concerned about.

Actually I do, because those beliefs influence my life whether I believe them or not.

how? seriously I'm curious.

Let's sum it up, you complained about a rather drastic forward move of the Catholic church, complained that the pope is old and showing how you do not understand the process of how the pope is elected, then you managed to google and find out (congratulations, must be an intellectual achievement for you), then you took a cheap shot you thought was witty and you decided that you didn't run out of arguments I must be not worthy debating with and whether and weather... English might be my 3rd language but I hope I never make as much of an arse out of myself in any foreign language as you manage to do so easily in your native language... Congratulations, again, as I said, you are a negative person, hope you find some joy in your life no matter whether it is the weather or not... Misery loves company, I don't like your company... Go figure.

Let's sum it up another way.

You are someone so indoctrinated in your religion that you are unable to view it objectively.

And before you take that as insult, consider it.

Agnostics now have a religion?

Sure.  Why not?  It is a belief system.  It fits the definition.  I can role with that.

Family, friends.

When you are constantly surrounded by it how does it not influence your life?

I truly love this concept that a lack of a belief system is a belief system.

I don't know. Unitarians come close to this.

In what way?

My ex-wife's family were Unitarians and they believe in a God, though they do not accept many traditional religious beliefs.

But they still believe.

Suit myself about what?

I was asking you a polite question.

You made the comment, I was only asking you to elaborate.

A negative or skeptical belief is still a belief.

Well, we have had too many threads debating that point, and I'm not sure I want to rehash this but not believing is not a belief.

It is simply neutral.

Lucylastic -> RE: Catholics can rejoice, the Pope says we can use condoms....in some cases (11/21/2010 8:40:50 AM)

skepticism isn't a belief either, its questioning a position

littlewonder -> RE: Catholics can rejoice, the Pope says we can use condoms....in some cases (11/21/2010 9:44:36 AM)

all my friends are catholic, my sisters are catholic. Their beliefs don't seem to influence mine though because I have a very strong belief in my own faith, morals and values. We all just agree to disagree and go on with life. I mean it's not like my sisters are forcing me to do what they do or believe what they believe.

I guess that comes to how devout and vocal your friends and family are.

Mine annoy the hell out of me.

First, i appologize for my comment to you Aylee as a response to the above post.

In my weak attempt at a defence, i posted at 156 am. I should know better than to post while exhausted. Thank you for the kind cmail. You could have ripped me a new one and i would have agreed with you.

Rml takes a hard stance against religion. Which is his right. It was him that i thought i was responding too. (gotta get over the vanity and finally look into those glasses, dangit.)

Agnostics, as far as i know, have no belief when it comes to there being a god or not... they simply want proof before commiting to either side. That i can respect. I dont expect to even try and convert any atheists or agnostics on these boards to my way of spiritual thinking. But i dont denigrate them either. Would be nice if the same enlightenment was applied by those of the other side.

But, it is what it is. Non-believers often state that they are tired of people cramming religion down their throats/in their faces/ ect ect. Yet they offer no respect for those of us who make no attempts to force anyone to believe as we do.

Its becoming an old, stale argument. Just take a look at the thread regarding the Catholic Church and the use of condoms. A HUGE turn around for the church considering just a little over a year ago the Pope was in Cameroon stating condoms were not the answer to aids.

Funny... religions are becoming enlightened on the issues Atheists have belittled them for years for not being enlightened enough upon, yet Atheists are still complaining.

Makes me wonder exactly what the motives are........

You also shut the door on any answers, pointing out your knowledge of Unitarianism.

Surely you've come across the slew of good-natured jokes about Unitarian agnosticism. Like facing a crossroads between paths labeled "heaven" and "discussion of heaven," Unitarians choose the discussion?

Or perhaps it's the meaning of agnostic that's the barrier--far from atheist, this is simply acknowledging the lack of knowledge; nothing about that would interfere with an agnostic religion.

http://www.allaboutphilosophy.org/agnostic-religion-faq.htm

I simply don't want to debate definitions.

Take from that what you will.

That's true to a certain degree, I think religion is a fantasy fest.

I grew up Catholic being told that I was eating the body of Christ at communion and the wine was drinking his blood.

Now really, can it possibly be any more crazy than that?
