Finally found the youtube video. This is incredible that a Senator would advocate censorship from legitimate news sources. Obviously, this is in retaliation for calls from republicans to eliminate NPR public funding since they are nothing but a liberal mouthpiece. The difference here is that we don't use taxdollars to support MSNBC or FOX News. If you can't see the difference in that, you are the nutcase.

Yeah, I just watched him say that there is a bug inside of him that wants to have the FCC get rid of FOX and MSNBC. Then he goes on to talk about slimming down ENTERTAINMENT packages to keep cable companies from price gouging. He doesn't say he's going to try to get rid of FOX and MSNBC.

I agree, on one level I wish we could just get rid of FOX and MSNBC, but that is against the constitution. But I also hunger for quality news. But it looks like the majority of Americans want news that reinforces their point of view.

Free speech means nothing without free thoughts.

Of course, he is a democrat, no surprise there. His wife also works for a subsidiary of NPR. No surprise there either. They actually fired their most liberal commentator Juan Williams for accidentally telling the truth.

You're having me on, right?  Anyone who's listened to NPR for a long time would know he wasn't the most liberal guy there.

That's a real hoot.  Where or who said that?

Just think...soon Rockefeller could be a repub. Just not good enough yet.

Even if he intimated such a thing, he put it wrong. He should point out the lies and demagoguery and inform the constituency...being that our freedom of the press allows such speech.

BTW, Juan Williams is just another so-called lefty hired by Fox to have this great new realization of the rightwing lies at Fox and be 'converted' while in any given discussion. This has been a practice of Fox 'news' for years but with 'lefties' or 'liberals' that nobody knows. The problem arose only...only because Williams is a known lefty formally of the Wash. Post and NPR or at the very least a left-leaning moderate.

Not to worry though Williams now gets $2 million a year at Fox to be their newly 'wisened' liberal and will say just what Fox news wants him to say. Another long term practice at Fox...look it up.

Mr Rogers, are you saying that Juan Williams just reads off the teleprompter or a script that Fox supplies to him?
That he's not voicing his own opinions?

I heard and saw him say this on the news. I couldn't believe what i was hearing. I mean we all know the leftists want to throw out the Constitution, but for them to be so bold to declare it in front of the cameras is absolutely incredulous.

He actually wants MSNBC, and Fox news of course, shut down. Not only does he not think the news has the right to investigate and monitor our government, he actually thinks that citizens don't have the right to say whatever they want either.

The left has never wanted to ban free speech entirely - only that speech that they do not agree with or that casts them in a poor light.

You know, Aylee, one of the wonderful things about free speech is that it makes it so much easier to spot the idiots

As you so clearly show with each of your posts.

You mean MSNBC is secretly conservative?

Who knew?

It's a nice fantasy.  We would all be better off if both FOX NEWS and MSNBC went dark.

Actually, I find them both amusing, but there are people who take them way too seriously.

And I really don't find that as much with liberals and MSNBC as I do with conservatives and FOX.

It seems for many conservatives that FOX is the word of Christ and Beck, Hannity and O'Reilly are his modern day apostles.

flcouple2009 -> RE: Senator Rockefeller Wants Free Speech Eliminated (11/28/2010 4:20:22 PM)

Don't get wrong, I support their right to speak no matter what crap spills out of there mouths.

But that still doesn't mean we wouldn't all be better off if both MSNBC and FOX NEWS went dark.

Omigod!

How horrible!

When you figure out how to post links let me know and I'll have further comment.

Do you need a link to breath or brush your teeth too?

That would depend entirely on how that came to happen. If they closed up shop because nobody was watching, then yes. If it came in the form of a government directive, we would be much, much worse off.

MstrPBK -> RE: Senator Rockefeller Wants Free Speech Eliminated (11/28/2010 10:36:26 PM)

What this whole discussion boils down to is that maybe we need to re-define and re-consider what is news vrs. editorial comments are and how do we relabel information sources based on those definitions.
