Members of Congress Exempt From TSA AIT Full Body Scanners So, why isn’t it a big issue with our Congressmen and Congresswomen? Could it be the fact that they’re, say, exempt from TSA screening? You betcha.

Let's throw them all out!

That's how we "fix" things in this country.

I've no idea in which article I read it yesterday, but the exemption is not for all members of Congress... only those who have a security detail attached to them, like Boehner.

As Speaker of the House is third in line to assume the Presidency (should anything happen to the President and Vice President), he or she is assigned a US Capitol Police Security Detail, 24/7.

While I agree that it doesn't seem fair that anyone should be exempted from having to go through the security procedures... particularly those who have been involved in implementing those procedures... it does seem a bit stupid to have TSA personnel searching Capitol Police.

Oh, hang on... it was the New York Times.

Why wouldn't we want our politicians to have the experience of Gate Rape like the rest of us when they travel?
This past summer in Philladelphia's airport one TSA guy made me take off my sunglasses as he looked at my lisense so he could see that my eyes matched "Blue" like it says on my lisense.
I told him nice and loud so everyone in the area could hear me,' "They're BLUE!"
"Terrorists don't have BLUE eyes, didn't they tell you guys that?"

That permission might just tempt me to take the job.

Well considering that two GOP candidates openly advocated armed revolt should they not get the results they wanted in the election (wonder if Angle is gathering right wing militia members to take out Reid?) Perhaps the TSA should screen all republicans with full body searches, including a cavity search.

I mean they do have a nasty habit of advocating violence.

If security procedures exist, then they should be applicable to everyone as to suggest any single person is to be exempt, makes a mockery of the need for security, for everyone is open to corruption and more so those in authority who many would think are beyond corruption by their very authoritoral status. True leaders lead by example, therefore no one should be exempt from the law, as it exists for the protection of everybody.

Anything else just suggests elitism, one rule for one and another rule for everyone else. If it is accepted that we are all made equal, then no one is exempt from procedures.

I don't think the existing exemption is there because those individuals are considered "elite" in any way.  I suspect it has more to do with exposing the protected individual to possible dangers and the practicality of subjecting an armed security detail whose attention should not be diverted from protecting their charge.

Of course, this could be why other exempted individuals have opted to simply forgo commercial flight and fly privately via military aircraft.

Seems the only people getting profiled these days are WHITE people with BLUE eyes!
Next time I fly I'm going to stuff a big fat cucumber down my pants and request the x-ray instead of the pat-down.
"Well HELLO Mr. Popeye.....I mean...go right through."

Greetings popeye....

I have two things for you as to why they check everyone. The first is Timothy McVey. The second is they are not allowed to racial, ethnic profile.

Be well.....

And yet, every time my friend with slightly darker skin due to having grandparents from Egypt goes through the airport, he's always "randomly selected" for additional screening.

Thank goodness there's no profiling going on.

Its not just those who apparently through no fault of their own just happen to be born the way they are who seem to fit the security profiles, for anyone that is different becomes an obvious societal target. This includes anyone who chooses to be an individual, for authority does not like individuals and these people can be identified by mode of dress and even the length they choose to wear their hair.

Yeah, I get hassled everytime I go through airport security because I choose not to wear the almost regulation short back and sides or crew cut and I have been told my hair makes me obvious as a potential whatever. Dickheads I called them for I am clued in aviation security, for they do they not think if anyone was going to be a problem, they would do their best to blend into the majority so as to hide and not get caught before they get their job done. But what I got wrong was I assumed intelligence, duh, for it is known intelligence and security personel are not exactly the best partners, it is why they choose to work in security in the first place, too thick for anything else.

What is needed at such security situations, is intellects who think outside the box as perhaps it never occurred to those who are charged with security people who are going to cause a serious problem have brains that work very well for to get to the point where it is hoped security will stop them, they have invested a lot of powerful thought, terrorists aren't stupid, it is how they manage to remain incognito until they do their thing.

But perhaps that was the reason for the full body scanners, to negate the stupidity of people, especially the so called security at airports, who are more akin to thugs in uniform.

My thoughts of to where the security problem lies at airports, is what happens airside, aircraft on the ground are not guarded and servicing and replenishing goes on, but , no one would suspect groundcrew of having designs to bring a bird down. This is exasperated even more when it is employers seek to find the cheapest operative to hoover out the crap left by passengers that are pigs and treat their bought seat as their sty. Just think hooving and picking litter one moment then when no one is looking a pocketable package slipped down the crease of a seat.

Yeah, and a few years ago when I was in Boston/Logan on my way to Ireland they took me "randomly" into a room with my luggage and made me empty everything out on a big table!
