I'm curious. I was watching TV the other day and someone pronouced this guy's name as "Bay-ner". I double checked the spelling of his name and correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't it be pronounced, "Boe-ner"? I realize that's a problem if you have that last name and don't want people to make fun of you but come on. If I revealed my last name on this forum everyone would understand why I bring this up.

So, if we all should go on pronouncing his name as "Bay-ner" should we not also pronounce his first name as "Jane"?

Let me guess...your last name is...Wang? Cox? Dick?

At any rate, Boehner's name really should be pronounced Boner. So welcome Speaker Boner in January! (But not really--He's an a-hole)

Ok, make up your mind, is he an a-hole or a boner.

Myself, I vote for both.

Point taken: Boners are better than a-holes, overall, so he's an a-hole.

Nothing weird about it, folks.  Just like Matt Groening is pronounced "Grayning".

Same for Groener.

Really? Now that is weird. If the "O" is silent, why isn't it pronounced, "Ben-er" or "Gren-ing? All those years in school learning phonetics and such...it all just went poof! How do you pronounce your screen name..."thay-ern-hop-pee"?

Just kidding.

WOULD YOU RATHER BE A NUTTER OR A BONER?

And now here comes the new Speaker of the House, and I guess he’s just way too refined to call a spade a spade and pronounce “Boehner” the way every freaking human being in the world except for him would say it, which is “Boner,” which may make us giggle a little but at least is straightforward and honest, unlike this bogus “Bay-ner” thing. Man up, Mr. Speaker! There are lots of people with embarrassing-sounding names who suck it up and make the best of it. Look at Mayor Nutter! Look at Lucious Pusey! Look at Craphonso Thorpe! Look at Kosuke Fukudome, for heaven’s sake. I date the whole trend back to when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, we were told that the seventh planet from the sun, which we’d been happily calling “Your-A-nus” for centuries, was now to be called “YER-in-us,” to spare the delicate sensibilities of … I’m not really sure who. Little old ladies? Five-year-olds? Shy, socially maladjusted astronomers?

Has Stephen Colbert offered his thoughts on the matter?

“YER-in-us” Ha-ha! I hadn't heard that one. Your thoughts about "Boner" mirror my own. I think it lowers his appearing genuine (not that he has much to begin with). Him and "Mitch" McConnell make my skin crawl. Just looking at them is emotionally disturbing. It has nothing to do with which party they belong to...they're just, I don't know it's hard to put into words. "Icky" comes to mind.

Back in the seventies there was a movie called, "The Groove Tube" which spoofed big corporations amongst other things. The main corporation was the "Uranus Corporation" which was always releasing new technologies and in their commercial it ended with, "At Uranus...things come out a little different."
