I personally belive that birth control is wrong and not for me, doesn't mean that you have to believe that.   Doesn't mean that my religion created that belief either.

When you say birth control do you include condoms?

No

How about the pill?

popeye1250 -> RE: Religious Right and in the lifestyle (11/26/2010 9:40:54 AM)

I just believe in God not "religions."
If you examine religions they all seem to have one thing in common, only "one" person could go off to the desert/forest/mountains/ caves etc and "speak with God." That's very suspect in itself. Why only "one?" And those were the guys who started the religions.
Oh sure, I'm going to listen to the insane rantings of some guy who lived in a cave saying he is "revealing" something.
Or to some t.v. preacher with a bad haircut who wants lots of money and drives around in a Mercedes and who's parishioners drop to the ground screaming when he touches their foreheads! Sure, God wants to talk to assholes like that.
So, not being "religious" I have no conflicts with any of this.

I don't believe in God, or any deity for that matter, but I know I'm much more conservative than most of the mealy mouth congress critters who call themselves Republicans.

Moonhead -> RE: Religious Right and in the lifestyle (11/26/2010 12:35:41 PM)

I'm glad we can finally agree on something. You're much more conservative* than most of the fascist dictators who were briefly popular in mainland Europe during the 'Thirties, never mind the American Senate and Congress. I'm not sure that's anything to brag about, though.

*(In the "right wing" sense not the one that actually involves conservatism, of course.)

The RCC is not the only church, however it dominates the area in which I live which is South Texas. They are the ones I have to deal with.

- aylee - The premises of the churches are anti-sex the Catholic Church is the worst example. Even the Mormon Church is against polygamy. This "lifestyle" is not monolithic and everyone in it does not adhere to each facet of it, however in general its fair to say most churches are against what is practiced here.

Palin wanted books containing sex banned from libraries. It is fair to say Palin and most of her supporters would abhor the lifestyle. If you donated $2000 to her campaign and she was caught by someone who exposed your lifestyle she would be quick in returning it and denouncing you. This would be true of many Dems as well. Ron Paul on the other hand might stick up for.

Aylee was this concept too difficult for you?

They tried that in GA in the early 80's    LOL   They banned the bible because of all the begatting that went on.   Almost every magazine was banned cause they showed something.   lol   Almost all the text books too.    The major religions got together and filed suit agains't each other cause of the sex in their religion.   lol   It was sad and hiliarious.

Deal with them?

Just a thought, but you might try treating them as if they were any other person.

Frankly I cannot possibly imagine any horrors that the Catholics could be visiting on you.  What, did they ask you to Bingo?  To donate to the can food drive?  Did the local parish priest speak to you one day?

Umm. . . NO.  The premise of the Christian Churches is that Jesus Christ is the son of G*d and his death on the crucifix was the last blood sacrifice needed for atonement for all of the sins in the world.

You do not know many Catholic families, do you?  Yes, nuns are not supposed to have sex.  You see, they are Brides of Christ and having sex with someone would be cheating on Jesus.  Priests are not supposed to have sex because they are supposed to be more dedicated to g*d than a wife.

Or are you just pissy because they are against promiscuous sex?

Although I cannot understand why that would bother.  It would only make a difference if you were Catholic and wanted to have promiscuous sex.  If you are not Catholic then the Pope is not an authority for you.

Well duh!  They had to throw out the practice of polygamy in order to be able to become a state.  And just how many groups out there do you think are FOR polygamy?

Really?  Technically, I think that churches are more interested in your eternal soul than in what you are doing at home.  In fact, I think a Protestant tenant is, "Not by works but by faith alone."

Liar.

Have you asked them?

Honestly, do you really think that I share that much information about my personal self with complete strangers?

Stick up for me?  That suggests that I am doing something that would need sticking up for.

Nope.  I got it.  You hate people that are part of an organized religion and you want to feel superior to them.
