So no clothes are better?  What am I missing??

RCdc -> RE: Ban sale of used underwear in 3rd world? (11/27/2010 5:10:51 AM)

It's a really awkward one to offer an opinion on.  I have to admit, I am torn.  Part of me can understand the need for these exceptionally poor people, and yet most of me wants to support it because I totally believe in the right for people to be at least able to wear something that doesn't pose a health risk.  But then I couldn't even begin to comprehend the poverty being as I am and I think it is unfair and embarressing of me to even try.

So. . . if the used undies are banned and poor people can buy no undies at all won't they still run the risk of catching the skin diseases from the pants and shirts that are bought used and worn directly against the skin?

Aneirin -> RE: Ban sale of used underwear in 3rd world? (11/27/2010 9:54:24 AM)

What's wrong with simply stewing them in a suitable disinfectant before passing them on to others, as clothes are clothes to wear when you have none.

As it is, I buy clothes pre owned, not underwear or socks, but trousers, shirts and stuff, all of it is cleaned before  it goes on sale, the small is obvious, but I also do a disinfectant wash before I use it, and no problems so far.

Perhaps we in our world of money to be able to buy a pair of gruds, we dislike the idea of second hand gruds, but if we were like many in the world who could not afford, would we swallow our disgust and wear what is offered or go commando despite the cold.

MrKicia -> RE: Ban sale of used underwear in 3rd world? (11/27/2010 11:18:20 AM)

I would think a sanitary wash would suffice so that the garments could be worn again.  At least get the skid marks out. [:D]

Hmmm. . . perhaps some one could start a charity drive for McCalls and Butterick patterns to be sent over so that folks could make their own.  (yeah, there are other makers of patterns, but those are the ones that come to mind)

Fast Reply:

Isn't it interesting to think about how life has changed?  At one time, fabric was laboriously made.  Fine fabrics... in particular types that would be comfortable to wear against more sensitive parts... were rare and expensive.  People did not easily part with anything made of cloth... it was recycled as much as possible.  Sometimes through many people, patched and mended before reaching the point where it would no longer handle the rigors of being worn... then cannibalized for smaller items and patchwork quilts.

All with only basic hand-washing in between (if that).

Although we understand the importance of sanitation better today, it's amazing that we didn't all die off centuries ago.

Today I personally would not buy and wear used undergarments as I can afford to buy new.  In fact, I could afford to even avoid wearing my own used unmentionables, if I wanted.  [8D]

However, I can see buying used if I had no other options.  I'm not so sure that government intervention is really needed for this.

Hunky, better watch for a Mod drop ! That's a misleading title. I expected something alot more fun due to the title. OK I have a dirty mind but I have a license for that (the only license in fact).

Kidding aside, this is much ado about nothing. Wash that stuff in hot water with bleach and it's not going to spread any diseases I can think of on this planet. So it's a matter of pride in places where people eat dirt (clay actually) or spread dried cow manure all over their bodies to repel insects ?

Someone needs to get their priorities straight. A similar issue has been raised about used medical supplies such as orthoses. Put the shit in an autoclave and ship it. Instead many thousands of dollars worth of used braces and such must be thrown in the garbage.

Could the impetus be money ? Sell more orthoses, or in this case underwear ? Say it ain't so. Surely the motives are purely altruistic, nobody wants to make any money do they ?

We live in a throwawy society. Unfortunately the current experiment is showing that the throwaway society will eventually throw itself away. I suppose some call that evolution.

Yep, you have got it right, somewhere in it is people making money, as there always is, just got to watch these statements like 'unsanitary' , 'health and safety' and  'public protection' they are euphanisms that can be used to hide a true purpose.

But further to my earlier post on this subject, I just remembered, I have bought and worn used underwear, military surplus extreme cold, ( arctic grade) thermal long johns, a merino wool mix I believe, toasty is a word to describe. Now can anyone imagine something that could be as reesty as military underwear, yet they came to me clean and pong free and they have been through the wash many times since. Think the military steam wash the surplus to kill the nasties.

Termyn8or -> RE: Ban sale of used underwear in 3rd world? (11/27/2010 1:34:17 PM)

Pong free ? Maybe we need an English to English translator LOL.

I don't know how old everybody is, but things used to be different. This goes beyond hand me down clothes. People used to reuse bathwater. Showers weren't popular in the old days, people took baths - once a week whether they needed to or not. Really, on an old cartoon the character lands in a bathtub and declares "Hey, it ain't Saturday night".

Now we got people who take two or three showers a day. That removes the naturally occurring skin oils. And now we have a school of thought in the medical community that we have become too antiseptic, and our immune system suffers among other things. It's getting to where nude mud wrestlers have to take a shower before getting into the mud.

They spoke of a "shit eating grin". Where do you suppose that came from ? Babies ripping off their diapers and eating their shit. But now we have E coli. It is my opinion that E coli was always there, but people had an immune system and it wasn't an issue. Of course it may have mutated, but then if our immune system evolved at the same time it would not be a problem.

So just how does the immune system evolve ? Living in an antiseptic jar is not likely to be helpful. So who is healthier, the great unwashed or the well appointed elite ?

I'm not so sure that government intervention is even feasible.  What legislator wants his or her name attached to the Soiled but Still Usable Underwear Act?

Ah the old SSUUA.  Did you go to the rally last week?

Termyn8or -> RE: Ban sale of used underwear in 3rd world? (11/27/2010 2:05:21 PM)

Well, better avoid those third world countries, or becoming one because these people would be out of business :

http://www.pocopanties.com/used-panties.html

"Poco Used Panties offers the sexiest, wet and hottest asian panties and used panties online. The quality of my used panties surpasses my competitors. The difference is that I do not rush my orders and I personally masturbate in all of my used panties for all of my customers! I go to great lengths to ensure the highest quality of my used panties, used thongs, used socks, used panty hose and other fetish wear. Each of my used panties is personally worn by me, and it must meet my satisfaction before I ever add my used panties to my site. I always test my wet used panties for freshness, durability and overall quality!"

Imagine the economic impact. It isn't fair to quash one who is so dedicated.

why can't they just walk round naked, most of these countries in question are pretty warm, and it would raise alota tourist dollars lol

DamnPickyDomme -> RE: Ban sale of used underwear in 3rd world? (11/27/2010 6:26:53 PM)

when they have no worries about food, shelter, water, disease, war, and whatever other threats to survival they may face, then we can save them from the menace of used underwear!

Termyn8or -> RE: Ban sale of used underwear in 3rd world? (11/27/2010 11:35:24 PM)

But it is we who have to figure out just what asian panties are.
