The premise is that the title of this thread is wrong. It should be:

FBI and Somali-born teen plotted car bombing

The FBI seem to have quite a history of employing entrapment as a substitute for investigation. One might almost suspect that it's done to create the impression that the FBI are being successful in their efforts in the 'war against terror', or even that it is done to create the impression that the 'threat' against the US posed by foreigners is larger than it actually is. Either way, it all looks a bit dodgy to me.

Entrapment would mean they contacted him initially. Entrapment would have been an FBI agent, known as such to the teen, telling the teen what he was doing would not get him into trouble. This man... at 19, your considered a man... wasnt entrapped... he was trapped in a web of his own making.

The FBI's affidavit says the friend in Pakistan referred him to another associate, but gave him an e-mail address that Mohamud tried repeatedly to use unsuccessfully. The official said FBI agents saw that as an opportunity and e-mailed Mohamud in response, claiming to be associates of his friend, the former student.

The affidavit said Mohamud was warned several times about the seriousness of his plan, that women and children could be killed, and that he could back out. But he told agents: "Since I was 15 I thought about all this" and "It's gonna be a fireworks show ... a spectacular show."

Granted, this was an FBI affadavit, but the underlined doesn't sound like entrapment.

No, DG, it's much ado about something right now, for every other malignant fuck who might be thinking along similar lines, and has ever reached out on the internet. It's a neon sign that says "get nervous, bitches."

Far better, I think, to lead this turd down a garden path with a cell at the end, than to risk him finding a plot he could pull off all by himself, or making a connection with someone real.
