Status: offline 		Well, OK, since it is so auspicious an anniversary, this issue deserves a post of its own:
We're Number One!

We have now outlasted the Soivet Union in our invasion and occupation of Afghanistan.

But not to fear, comrades, the glorious victory is in sight! With perhaps another decade, or two, whatever, we will acheive the goal of....of...well, we will WIN!!!

I suppose this is also a record time of war in Canada also.

That scumbag as you call him would have provided funding for shit like schools, and hospitals and other essential infrastructure to bring the fucking country oh up to maybe the early 20th century.  That so called scumbag had the correct idea you help the nation build, and grow.  This would have avoided the power vacuum that happened and allowed the mujaheddin to become the Taliban. 

As usual though, our own shortsightedness fucks us over in the end, and we cut off funding and the Taliban (Taleban in some quarters) rose to power and gave aid and comfort to bin-Laden, and his nascent al-Quaeda  organization.  Had we listened to him , this shit-storm,  while not avoided completely, could likely have been greatly reduced in impact.

All charlie wilson brought to afghanistan was stinger missiles and soldiers to show the mujaheddin how to use them. I have never heard of one school,hospital ao any other essential infrastructure  improvement that scumbag wilson provided. All he did was lie cheat and steal to get a chance to poke the russians in the eye.

We did listen to the scumbag and all he did was steal money from the u.s. taxpayers to fund raytheon making stingers. Scumbag wilson is from texas and raytheon I believe made stingers in it's texas facility.

Hate to have to spring this one on you, old chap (it's like kicking a puppy), but you're a way off the record for occupying Afghanistan yet: the British Empire still holds that one, so even though you've outlasted the USSR, you still need to stick it out a bit longer.

Why oh why is it a good idea for the government to build schools and hospitals in Afghanistan, but a terrible idea to do the same thing here?

After all, won't the Free Market (pause to genuflect) provide all the schools and hospitals they will ever need? I heard the capital gains tax rate in Afghanistan is remarkably low, and the regulatory climate is most decidedly business-friendly.

According to the Gospel of Ayn Rand, the economy there should be bustling along any minute now.

Status: offline 		There was another group in Afghanistan that was building schools, hospitals, sports complexes, educating women, fighting Islamic extremist, oh wait those were the Soviets.

We would have been so much better off had we not supplied them with weapons and just let the Soviets slap them around.

Seriously, I'm not in any way supportive of this clusterfuck we are involved in over in Afghanistan but anyone (the OP) who would compare the Soviet invasion to what is going on now needs to crack a history book or two.
