Well all I know is that we are dependent on China now for food, since walmart actually imports much of their food from there, and the government won't require meat producers to tell us what meat is cloned and what isn't. So basically, the government really doesn't care if we end up starving to death if during a famine, the Chinese feed their people first or we get some genetic mutation 10 years later thanks to cloned meat.

Anyone who supports this government is insane.

You want small government and freeeee unregulated business, until it serves your whine that THIS government is doing nothing about all the terrible terrible things you find scary.
and you think liberals live in a fantasy world
oh you are sweet

PA, this bill is an amendment to the existing Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act

Glancing through the bill, I don't find where the scope of who is impacted will be broadened.  Several parts specify that only facilities required to register under 21 USC 350d will be affected.  From that regulation...

"The term `facility' includes any factory, warehouse, or establishment (including a factory, warehouse, or establishment of an importer) that manufactures, processes, packs, or holds food. Such term does not include farms; restaurants; other retail food establishments; nonprofit food establishments in which food is prepared for or served directly to the consumer; or fishing vessels (except such vessels engaged in processing as defined in section 123.3(k) of title 21, Code of Federal Regulations)."

Please note the portions I've highlighted above.

I think most people who have a home garden would fall under the "nonprofit food establishments in which food is prepared for or served directly to the consumer".

You can find a copy of the bill here, and you can follow along with the proposed changes here.  I believe others on here have already given you a link to follow the status of the bill.

Wow you're an idiot.

We're a major exporter. We lead the world in wheat production.

We alone grow enough food for the entire world--literally. We just throw it out or let it rot.

We grow so much we pay farmer's to limit their crops.

Or turn 'em into corn syrup... [:D]

PR.

Think of health care reform.  and now the big boys have waivers.  Same concept.

This law will apply to the little people- and the big boys with an army of lawyers will escape via "waivers".

Compliments of Monsanto!  of course.

They have cloned meat now?
Why wasn't there an episode of "Big Bang Theory" about this?

If anything the issue would be that the bigger companies are able to afford the new safety procedures better than the little guys, not that they're exempt.

here we go.  BP can afford the regs but they got exempted.  So your theory that they can afford it-  .,.. well- look at the bottom line.

Elisabella -> RE: Senate_Bill_S_510_PASSED_74_to_25,_The_Government_now_makes_y (11/29/2010 1:01:08 PM)

I was speaking specifically about the Senate bill being discussed in this thread, not making a generalized statement.

pahunkboy -> RE: Senate_Bill_S_510_PASSED_74_to_25,_The_Government_now_makes_y (11/29/2010 1:06:18 PM)

Eli., the same premise still applies.

Law making is incredibly sloppy. I cant think of too many that were done right in the past 10 years.. especially when they are rushed.  Congress does not write them, or even READ THEM, and congress is EXEMPT from the laws they make.

Wy would anyone clone meat? That would require much more work and money than simple artifial insemination and that is how most beef cattle are produced right now.

Moonhead -> RE: Senate_Bill_S_510_PASSED_74_to_25,_The_Government_now_makes_y (11/29/2010 3:11:55 PM)

Uhhhhh.............so who writes them?

And while we are at it, would you like to explain to me what laws our Congressmen/women and Senators are exempt from?

It would seem to me enough of them have been in legal trouble in the past few years to debunk that notion.

pahunkboy -> RE: Senate_Bill_S_510_PASSED_74_to_25,_The_Government_now_makes_y (11/29/2010 3:39:29 PM)

RML-   who knows?   We peons cant possibly ever be as smart of congress...   and WHO does write these bills?

Lobbyists do.
===================================
The earliest votes on $510 (which is, after all, about money, not food and certainly not freedom) will probably not come before 9 PM tonignt although the Senate schedule, which showed the Monday session starting at 9:30 AM and taking up S.510 after "morning business" now shows the morning session postponed until 2 PM -- this means lots of "back-room" wheeling and dealing as the Bigs try to rescue their fake "food safety" bill from our growing Push Back!
