Is it Chicago vs. Hawaii for Obama's presidential library?
hmm.   Chicago seems like the likely choice.

Generally, libraries are put very near the place they are born. At least in the state.

I don't see ChiTown as a logical choice for any reason.

No one goes to Hawaii.  If it is in Chicago- most of the country could visit.

You need to stay out of the tourism industry, because you would fail in only the grandest of fashions.

You might want to go to see what prisonplanet has on tourism numbers (by visitors and by money) and see who dreams of the city of big shoulders, the windy city, or the lush warm climate of our 50th state in the december-april timeframe.

People go to ChiTown to drink beer, and watch Da Bears.

In 2003 alone, according to state government data (see[1]), there were over 6.4 million visitors to the Hawaiian Islands with expenditures of over $10 billion

2006 and 2007 saw a big increase in tourism, with over 7.6 million visitors.

But, no one visits Hawaii.

How often do you drop in to the big Island?

What good is it- if no one on CM cant go visit it?

mnottertail -> RE: Is it Chicago vs. Hawaii for Obama's presidential library? (11/30/2010 8:35:13 AM)

Are you compiling some sort of data that indicates that there is no one from HI who is also a member of CM?

tazzygirl -> RE: Is it Chicago vs. Hawaii for Obama's presidential library? (11/30/2010 8:38:00 AM)

You do realize many that post on this forum have never been to any part of the US, let alone the east coast, let alone Chicago.

Carter's is in Atlanta. Been there once.

Lincoln's Library... never been to Springfield Ill.

Never been to Simi Valley, Cal,. the home of Reagan's Library.

Last time I checked, Hawaii is a state.

Is it your contention Obama's Library shouldnt be housed there because you dont want to visit Hawaii?

The users in Hawaii can. The last I checked, Troll was living there and had offered to let me come visit him.

So there are two folks on CM off the bat.

I will never have a reason to go to HI.   I will however be in Chicago as family is there.   They could build it INTO Ohare, and that way delayed plane people could pop in.

I'm sure they'll be all broken up over that.  They won't have a Alex Jones section so there wouldn't be a reason for you to go anyway.

But who'd want to?
It'd be pretty boring; "Number of articles published in the Harvard law review before becomming *editor*, "one."
"How children can sue their dead parents estates", or some such foolishness.
"And this is the biggest part of the library, The Affirmative Action Wing."
"All 57 states made donations to the library to ah,.....fill in the gaps."
"Grade transcripts from Columbia U; .....unavailable."
(Evidently "The Brilliant Legal Scholor" didn't do too well at Columbia.)
"*Birth certificate* for Mr Obama, out being reframed, expected delivery date, ...unknown."
"Pair of Michelle Obama's *size 15* shoes that she wore on the India trip."
"Framed copy of Aunt Zetuni's origional first welfare check!"
"Framed copies of Aunt Zetuni's two orders of deportation."
I wonder if Obama's library will look like a "double-wide" like Clinton's?

I forgot.... the world revolves around YOU and therefore no one in a location YOU aren't deserves anything.

I dunno.... I might go if I ever get to venture to Hawaii. I'm a history nerd so I might go see what documents and items they had.

They "had" or they "hid?"
If you're a history buff go to England. Much more interesting! I went to a pub there that was said to be 1,000 years old!

Maybe they should build it in Kenya ?
