I'm sure the haters will make up all sorts of lies but here are the facts.

When it happens, the Marines will be the gay branch. It will certainly require a difficult transition period, but oh my gawd, the uniform is FABULOUS, and they're all so macho!

cuckoldmepls -> RE: Pentagon DADT survey results released (11/30/2010 7:58:41 PM)

You know this might not be a bad thing. It should drive down reenlistment numbers to such a low level that they will have to implement the draft. I truly believe that every man in this country should have to serve a tour of duty in the military to appreciate what it takes to keep this country free.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Pentagon DADT survey results released (11/30/2010 8:09:35 PM)

My old dive buddy in miami did a couple or tours in SE asia with a SEAL team and I asked about sharing a foxhole with a gay dude, he said "Can the fucker shoot straight, send a LOT of ordnance downrange and not fall apart when the shit hits the fan?"

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzt!!! Wrong answer Hans, care to try for double jeopardy where the scores can really change?

The Navy, and the US Air Force will be the military of choice for most gays.  Most gays I have met are highly intelligent, and the Navy and Air Force advertise themselves in that fashion.  Now I grant you you can not be truly stupid and be in any branch of the military, but there is the perception that the "ground-pounders" are not the sharpest knives in the drawer.

I have served with Gay's and Lesbians (even dated some so show the Army that they weren't - a ploy).  As long as they did their job like they were supposed to do (just like any other service member), I have no problem with the repeal.   I am retired Army.

"In the NA-VY....."

I served with a few dykes in the C.G. and they were pretty cool! One of them had auburn hair and legs and an ass to die for!
If they want to serve our country in uniform then why not?

Maybe accurate at the moment, Knucklehead, but, your broad brush assertions about gays aside (I've known some total dumbass homosexuals), I'm standing by my opinion about the Corps becoming the most gay branch if/when DADT goes away.

People enter the military for all sorts of reasons, but it will always be a route for young adults who just want to get far away from where they are, and for those who feel they have something to prove. The squids and air scouts are going to get hot meals and a bed, under a roof, far more often than the dogfaces and jarheads. The motivation of the enlistee will determine what choices they make.

Under DADT, and the earlier ban, the only gays joining the military were those willing to live closeted, and those who were still in some form of denial, or thought the military would "fix" them. There are plenty of potential recruits who are out and proud, but still seek to prove themselves, and will see military service as a way to do that. "The few, the proud, semper fi," is going to appeal strongly to those young men. They want to be the best. And let's just be honest about that uniform, ok?

KenDckey -> RE: Pentagon DADT survey results released (12/2/2010 9:20:00 PM)

I think that fairly soon almost all the regulations and the UCMJ will change to eliminate existing policies based upon the recommendations.   They will allow the court rulling that says it has to go to stand and drop their appeal.   My 2 cents

What has always confused me about this whole issue is the apparent short sighted memory of all concerned.Flash back to President Truman...who with a stroke of a Presiedential pen ended unit segregation in the armed forces....despite the quite expected and oft used objections about a so called threat to "unit cohesion" and " military readiness".
Proved to be so much bullshit than.....as it will now.

Ahem!  The Marines are already the "gay branch."

Right there with you, Mike.  Always wondered the same.

Well I base my guess on my time in the USAF (4 May 1977 to 11 Apr 1983).  I served beside a lot of gays even then.  The Navy of the day was leading the military in "homosexual behavior discharges"  in that era.

I will admit the "tough guy" gays will be attracted to the rigor of the Marine Corps, hell that rigor is what convinced me to join the Air Force.  I figured 13 weeks of hell & sand fleas on Paris Island, or 6 weeks in San Antonio.

Looking back though I now realize I was more than tough enough to have hacked it, but with my smart assed attitude I'd have been a 20 year E-5 at best.  I knew when  it was time to get out, when I was in the Air Force.

If anyone wants to join the military let them I say.

Personally i would like to see all uniforms of all branches of all armed forces in the world a fetching shade of hot pink.

Very quickly we wouldn't have any armed forces left anywhere and hey presto - no more wars!

My God tweak, you just might have stumbled onto a radical new plan to stop war.....on the other hand it could just turn out to be a hell of a boon for the fashion industry.
I can see it now "Victoria's Secrets new fall military catalogue.

Basically what I saw was a lot of words. Lots and lots of them. And this :

When they write all day to make a point, false or not, nobody is going to read the whole thing. So give them a picture. Usually it's a pie chart but they have nowhere near the data for that. So now it is a spectral gradient. Now who decided how many angstroms per head lost, or whatever criteria would "represent" the figures ? Those with vested interest. Crank the diffractor a bit to the right Clem......

[:D] I'd love to claim credit for it but, AFAIK, the idea comes from Boy George originally.

I heard that giving prison inmates pink underwear causes a reduction in the crime rate.
