On another thread someone mentioned they would blush and run like hell if taken to an adult store. That made me think it would be fun to hear everyone's first time experiences and what they bought, who they went with, etc.

My first time was years ago, i was in Hawaii by myself cleaning up our condo after a water leak. I found a hard core porn video that a renter had left. There i was with nothing to do at night but watch the video, but no toys with me. (The few toys I had at home were ones hubby had bought for me) Well the first nite I used a beer bottle, it's all i could find in the condo. I was 16. Went to the local store there in town where we lived. Took a few of my friends. Asked the guy behind the counter if I could taste all of the lubes. Naturally he obliged. I think all in all I was there a few hours. Went back about a month later.
I just love toys. i guess you could say I'm a toy conisseur it takes a lot to really dazzle me.

Heh. Much like Sub4hire, I was well south of the traditional 18 year age limit. I just brazenly walked in (after all, the worst they could do was tell me to leave, and I was in a neighborhood where adult stores were pretty common). I glanced at the various toys on display, got some tokens for the arcade, and bought a few very poorly written pornographic novellettes which claimed to have a bondage theme. I think they, more than any other influence in my life, spurred me to becoming a writer. I remember reading them at home, thinking to myself, "Jeez - I'm a sixteen year old virgin and I can write better stuff than this!"

I prefer visiting the adult stores now, largely because I shop with my wife. While female shoppers are more common than they once were, I still find it amusing to watch a member of the "trenchcoat brigade" do a doubletake when they see her and then quickly disappear into some other section rather than actually be in the same room. Occasionally you can catch one playing "peekaboo" from behind a rack of magazines or videos. I guess it's one of the ways I display my "dominance" over other males - I get to silently imply that she's mine, not theirs, and they can't have her.

Well i have no idea how old i was when i first walked in but i do remember men scattering when this woman walked in!

I was looking at everything! So bold that i was at the time. And men who were looking at magazines and toys would walk away as i was too close to them. I think if i rememeber correctly a few even left the store that day after seeing me there.

It is alwyas so much fun when i take a store virgin shopping in one, and we have to ask questions of the people who work there. Its a lot of fun! Still cant my mom to go into one, but i keep trying! But now when i go in into one if there is something i have no idea about i ask lol. Makes for some interesting conversation!

I would've been 18, I guess. I've never been embarrassed to go into a sex store, I've always loved it. Just seeing everything on display, trying to figure out what some of them were (I have a much better idea now!). I'd be the one to drag my friends in, because they were too shy to go in by themselves.

I should go more often, it's been a while, and I think it's time I bought a new vibrator.

my first visit to an adult store was with my Master & was only about a month ago. i wasn't paying attention to O/our surroundings as He pulled into the parking lot, so didn't even have a clue that the place was an adult store (W/we'd stopped at a local tattoo place earlier which was closing for the evening, so i figured He was going to another one).

As W/we approached a plain steel back door (there were no signs that i saw which announced what type of establishment it was) i noticed it had a sign that simply stated, "Yes, We Are Open". In noting that the place was not well labeled, i was thinking that if this were a tattoo place it was odd to me that they had no signs and i had to wonder if the place was licensed even.

Walked in and i'm not sure what i noticed first, the huge wall that was well stocked with various dildos, & vibrators of every color and size, the manequin which displayed a contraption of leather rivoted with bits of steel and silver buckles ( i guess it was some type of attire.. lol), or the rows of adult videos. There was also an array of BDSM stuff such as cuffs, nipple clips and clamps, as well as spreader bars etc. (these i was already familiar with as Master has them at home). i'd never had the nerve to visit an adult store by myself in all of my 36 years, and partners of past vanilla relationships would certainly not have been co-operative or enthusiastic in visiting such establishments. Either way, in the moment that it finally registered in my mind that W/we were at an adult toy store, i think i may have missed a step or even may have stopped in my tracks all together, for a split second (i AM certain that my breath caught and then stopped for a millisecond in time & i have no doubt that my eyes grew a bit big as i blushed in realization). my reactions were simply those of pure bashfulness mixed with excitement and anticipation.

As my Master browsed around the place a bit, i simply kept pace following closely. He pointed out a few items and sought my opinions/reactions. i was definitely a bit shy and very reserved, although inwardly i was certainly enthusiastic, and answered in what i am sure was at times a barely audible reply. Although i was a bit bashful my glances darted about rapidly at all of the various impliments, taking it all in. i'm sure it was a small place as compared to most and even a bit tame perhaps, but it was the first adult type store i'd ever entered.

At one point Master stopped where the dildos are located and simply asked me which one i liked. i think i may have shrugged and said i did not know. He chose for me (a 10" dildo of lifelike quality in shape and design, of clear silicone). i could not have selected a better toy myself. [:)]

I guess it's a cultural thing but there are adult stores and strip joints every two blocks downtown here. And they have beautiful window displays for each. People walk in and out of them like they went to buy a magazine or a pack of gum.

I’m not even sure what the age limit would be but I’m assuming it would be 14 as the legal age of consent in Canada is 14 but there is also a sexual exploitation act in place that prevents someone over 18 to have sexual contact with someone more then 2 years younger then them. It gets more complicated then that and I’m getting off topic.

As for my first experience in a sex shop, I believe I was 19. I went in with one of my best friends and we each bought a vibrator. Mine was silver and hers was purple. We did walk around a lot and asked questions to the shopkeeper who kept a close eye on us. I also remember that we got cruised by a slimy guy while we were there and could not stop giggling. I don't remember how old I was the first time I went into a toy shop, but I remember MY first purchase. I went into a local store, feeling nervous and bashful, kind of like how I still feel buying feminine products[:o], go figure. The front section of the store is all lingerie and oils but I saw the door with the big warning sign on it regarding underage shoppers not permitted and knew that is the door I wanted. O Gosh, i am shy [sm=rolleyes.gif] so of course my first time i blushed a lot! My husband at the time had ordered a few things for me through a catalog but this day i had wanted a vibrating bullet (egg) and mine had quit working. I was living in London and walked in alone (I think I would have been about 22) it was quite seedy and there were no other women there. As soon as I walked in, the men there surreptitiously put back what ever they were handling and were out the door. The place emptied. It was really funny, my presence doesn't usually have that effect! I didn't even buy anything...on that occasion...

Nowadays there is a great local sex shop (In Wellington) called d-vice which also has a great user friendly website. It's alot fresher and you don't have to wade through a bunch of porn to get to the products - just in case anyone has trouble working up the nerve. (I'm pretty sure they have shops in Australia too)

well, maybe it has something to do with my thing for humiliation, but i've always kind of looked forward to being sent to a sex shoppe to buy things like dildos, panties and the like...the main downside of the net is that people don't actually have to show up to get their kink...it's too anonymous sometimes, imho.

my first time in an adult store was actually not a store at all. i applied for a job at the only XXX rated theater in town and was really surprised to get the job. You see, everyone there (including the manager was a female)! i was going to college, working a full-time graveyard shift job, and needed another part-time job that fit my schedule.

i remember getting tunnel vision the first night at work. The first sex store i went into i recall was not advertised as one. Yes, I have and the answer that I was given is that she was scared that someone would perhaps take her place. My response to that was no one can take your place in my heart. I totally believe that. I was married to a woman for 15 yrs. and no matter were I go or what I do, no one can take her place although we are not together anymore. You are absolutely right about the humiliation aspect. The thing is, the design school I go to is situated smack in the middle of Wellingtons red light district (a few streets really) and Dvice is the only shop not within viewing/ strolling distance. Yes I am a great big chicken! and I am lucky not to have a Dom at the moment who knows that I really don't want my tutors to know what I get up to...Actually Wellington is so small that it is more than likely I'd bump into my tutors in Dvice because of this fact. We probably all go there...
