I truly enjoy the festive atmosphere this time of year. I always look forward to
driving around the neighborhood, looking at all the wonderful Christmas light
displays, while listening to some of my favorite Christmas songs playing rather
loudly on the radio.

What's your most cherished Christmas or Hanukkah song?
Mine has always been Carol Of The Bells, and this link comes with it's own light show! Enjoy!

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walkin home from our place christmas eve
People say there's no such thing as Santa
But as me me and Grampaw we believe.

Ave Maria sung in Latin.

I find myself calm and peaceful everytime I hear that song. I love going to church on Christmas Eve and hearing the choir fill the air with such beauty but yet such quiet among the parishioners.

Little Drummer Boy. Always puts me in a good mood.

Mr. Cat's vet in San Francisco wrote & recorded this song! Dr. Elmo Shropshire. I love this song!! But I think my favorite would be God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen because I used to play the piano while my Father sang it in his deep bass voice. Happy childhood memory.

My favorite song is "Silver Bells' I just cannot remember who sung it.  I would sing it when I heard it playing.

I actually really can't stand Christmas music, so I guess it's fitting that I love the Grinch theme. The Grinch Stole Christmas is really the only thing I look forward to this time of year!

en camino a Belen. (on the road to Bethlehem) is about the joy of Christ's impeding birth. although a Pagan it reminds me of my childhood in PR where there was no Santa . instead the 3 wise men brought gifts to the children on jan 6.

This time, this time
making Christmas,
making Christmas
making Christmas, making Christmas is so fine . . .

Nightmare Before Christmas theme song. It's certainly not traditional, but i love it.

I just put A Very Special Christmas, Christmas with Mario Lanza,Trans-Siberian Orchestra (Christmas Eve and Other Stories), and Luther Vandross (This is Christmas) on my MP3 player today.

I think my favorite song of all of them is "Old City Bar" on T-S Orchestra. I cry almost every time.

Mario Lanza!! Our house was filled with his music, as well as Enrico Carusos'.
Thanks for those memories :)

I'm linking Old City Bar here as well. I'd never heard it before,
and it's well worth sharing with others.

In just a couple of days, I'll be up at my folks' place, helping Mom decorate the tree while Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole play on their ancient stereo... the memories make me feel all fuzzy just thinking about it.

Now this is sweet. I like hearing stories like this.

I hope you have a wonderful time while there and enjoy every minute of it.

All time favorite?  I am rather fond of "I saw mommy kissing Yog-Sothoth."  But then again, I have always been a bit strange.

I saw mommy kissing Yog-Sothoth
In the ring of stones on Central Hill.
My brother and I were spawned
From the Necronomicon.
Dad looks just like his picture on page seven-fifty-one.

Now we will work to summon Yog-Sothoth,
The key to where the Great Old Ones have trod.
He would surely come unglued,
Had Armitage ever viewed,
Mommy kissing Yog-Sothoth, The God!

And of course, "The Little Blue Bell" by Brenda Lee.

windchymes -> RE: All Time Favorite...... (12/12/2010 9:44:46 AM)

Most cherished secular is "Merry Christmas Darling" by the Carpenters.

Sacred is the Hallelujah Chorus in a big church or cathedral with a kickin' ass pipe organ, herald trumpets, and choir. Giving me goosebumps just typing it, lol.

And there are several dozen runners-up. Jose Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad" just makes me want to dance around the room. :)
