MrRodgers -> Senate ethics anyone ? (12/3/2010 9:13:19 PM)

Ensign should be kicked-out of the senate. I doubt we'll see much action in the senate now as this kind of thing draws more attention to all of them. I see censure and possibly enough opprobrium hopefully to get him out. Here

The announcement came as something of a surprise to many ethics lawyers outside the Justice Department, who said there appeared to be significant evidence to indicate that Mr. Ensign may have conspired to violate a criminal ban on federal lobbying. Here

Let's see if he gets the same as Rangel Here

Even with a dem majority in the senate, I still don't see much happening.

Why don't you start a threat about Charlie Rangle ? He was just cencured by the House and the democrats gave him a standing ovation when it was over.

subrob1967 -> RE: Senate ethics anyone ? (12/3/2010 9:57:39 PM)

Kicked out for what exactly?

quote:

WASHINGTON —Justice Department prosecutors have cleared Senator John Ensign of criminal allegations arising from his affair with a former campaign aide and his efforts to secure lobbying work for the woman’s husband, the senator’s lawyers announced Wednesday.

Source...Your link, very first paragraph.

What part of cleared didn't you understand? Also according to you leftists affairs are none of our business, and Clinton should have been left alone...Why the flip flop?

Rangel is old news and besides, I am old enough to remember that (speaker) Jim Wright was kicked out for accepting a large book bonus, something that any number have done since including Newt Gingrich I believe. i.e., house ethics must be an evolving affair.

But that's the question ? Is there such a thing as senate ethics ? Nothing criminal is necessary to violate what I think should be ethical behavior. I realize they didn't find that $96,000 in his office freezer yet what Ensign has done should be more than enough to see him at the very least...censured.

Grasping at straws again going after 'lefties.'
You see no difference in lying about an oval office blow job as compared to throwing money, power and influence around from a sitting senator ? I do...a big difference. There is absolutely no comparison at all as Clinton wasn't charged or suspected of doing anything like this guy Ensign. This obviously wasn't just an affair.

Besides, the lawsuits against Clinton were civil not criminal and the plaintiff was in no position to sue within the statute of limitations if it wasn't for repub backers.

Except committing perjury, which is a criminal act...But all is forgiven when there's a D behind the name.

Perjury, was he charged ?

Look, it was a civil case about his time as governor into which repub backers went to work with money and all of the background they could get and to build nothing more than circumstantial evidence. Nothing like what this guy Ensign was up to.

Just give it up, there is no comparison no matter how hard you try.

Fuck yes he was impeached. So you are correct on trying to compare them, there isn't one...Why are you trying?

On December 19, following much debate over the constitutionality of the proceedings and whether or not Clinton could be punished by censure rather than impeachment, the House of Representatives held its historic vote. Clinton was impeached on two counts, grand jury perjury (228–206) and obstruction of justice (221–212),

Yaknow, when I saw the words "Senate Ethics", that old song from Sesame street went thru My head.

the song goes "One of these things is different from the other. One of these things doesn't belong"

Charlie Rangle is censured for accepting money and not reporting income on rental properties for 17 years. After they censure him the democrats give him a standing ovation. What a bunch of pukes.

tazzygirl -> RE: Senate ethics anyone ? (12/4/2010 8:22:52 AM)

Clinton... impeached, but never convicted. Must piss you off that Republican Senators couldnt get it together enough to convict him.

I can easily answer that.

Because Ensign is a self-righteous hypocrite who called on Clinton to resign because of his affairs, publicly called Larry Craig a disgrace, and opposed gay marriage by touting the sanctity of marriage.

You just don't understand the rules in Republicanland.

That magical place where you can be impeached for a blow job from an intern but you are worthy to be President after abandoning your cancer-stricken wife for another woman.

He was cleared of any criminal charges, and nope I could give a flip about the affair either.

It's this part that might still be an ethics violation,  "his efforts to secure lobbying work for the woman’s husband".

What part of that do you not understand?

servantforuse -> RE: Senate ethics anyone ? (12/5/2010 7:33:33 AM)

Abandoning your cancer stricten wife for another woman to run for president ? You must be talking about John Edwards .

Gingrich married his second wife, Marianne Ginther, months after he divorced Battley in 1981. According to Battley, Gingrich discussed divorce terms with her while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery.

"There are things in my own life that I have gotten on my knees and turned to God and prayed about," Gingrich said.

Clinton Impeachment Proceedings
Gingrich also acknowledged cheating on Ginther while leading the impeachment proceedings against President Clinton for allegations of perjury involving the Paula Jones sexual harassment civil case and the president's affair with Monica Lewinsky.
