Hehe, love your notorious sluts comment. I don't care what charastics they have, just as long as I can carve them an eat their seeds. It's why I want to grow my own, so that pumpkin patches and what not are out of the picture, sure I'd go if I wanna go see the goats or the candy store or something, but , when it comes down to it, if you want more than one pumpkin, and you want it to be fairly large, not huge but not small either, you're gonna get wallet gouged, One pumpkin alone was 4 bucks, Walmart wanted 3 bucks a piece for them, and some of them were pretty scared an messed up, an the best deal I found with out a bunch of bargain hunting was 2 for 6 dollars at Raleys. Well, they got rained on actually:( When I was done cutting the pumpkin an we needed someplace to put them, we put a towl in the bottom of a can an put them in there, and then they got put outside on a table an forgotten about, so yeah, it was improper storing, to begin with, an then they sat an got rained on twice and then I forgot them for a day or two, sitting there in their can all pressed in on each other, with a wet paper towel..*ashamed face at my seed negligence* I washed them all off, an they still stink somewhat, and the seeds themselves are brown and awfull looking, not the slop on them, they were relativly slop free when they went into the cans. so they're probably trashed. quote:
ORIGINAL: DarkSteven Cucurbits, which the pumpkin family belongs to, are notorious sluts. They will interbreed with any others, so that is what DesFIP meant when she said they will not breed true. The offspring could have any characteristics. I suspect that you did not wash the seeds, and that they had the stringy pumpkin innards attached, and that is what went bad. If they went bad, they will not germinate, period. But as I said, I suspect that you didn't clean the seeds, and that the seeds will be fine once you wash them. Either that or you stored them in an extremely humid place. Seeds are designed by nature for staying unrotted for extended periods of time out in the open (years).
