Years ago I bought my niece an American Girl Doll for her 7th birthday. My sister told me that her father said he wasn't going to pay, "$89 for a fuckin stupid doll!"
So, Uncle Popeye to the rescue!
My sister took her into the house and told me to put the doll on the front porch and ring the bell.
I did and when she came to the door and opened it and saw the doll on the porch I got the best picture of her!
Those dolls are expensive and all the things you can order to go with the doll are too!
And, I bought a "Crolly Doll" from Donegal, Ireland for a friend of mine.
It was the "Katie" or "Katherine doll, with great clothing on her and an apron and a canvass bag to pick potatos and carry them in.
The young people who picked potatos in the 1800's were called "Tatie Hokers."
I think they have about 30 or 40 dolls in differant costumes and dress.
Those dolls are worth a lot of money too I think. The workmanship is very good.
They also have a line of porceline dolls.

lol....I priced the American Girl dolls recently, for a possible grandkid Xmas present, and they're $95 now. And you can get one custom-made to look like the recipient now: light skin, dark skin, blonde, brunette, bangs, no bangs, straight hair, curly hair, glasses, etc. They're quite an empire.

They really are. Although I am still a huge of fan of them. The dolls and the books really helped get me hooked into history when I was younger. And the little workshops that you can do at some of the settings of the books are really fun. I remember being a kid and my Mom took me to Colonial Williamsburg when they started doing a Felicity tour/workshop thing. We got to dress up, serve tea and if we brought our dolls they got a special "Patriot's Pass" to pin to their dresses. I think I still have that little pin somewhere. [:)]

Wow, you can get them custom made now eh? And they've only gone up $6 in 15 years? I think the doll acts as the "foot in the door" to get more things out of the catalogue, as I remember that after market accessaries stuff is very expensive!
My sister told me that some of the girls who went to school with my niece had thousands of dollars of stuff that their parents ordered for them. They live in a nice area of coastal N.H.
The look on my niece's face when she saw that doll for the first time was priceless so I think it was worth it!

OK, I'm FRing this.

If you really want to know (OP) what something is worth, try to buy it.

Get me right here, and get it straight. Do not try to sell what you have, try to buy it.

Just an old Terminator's trick, but it works.

I am sure.

But this thread-  lets recap.

Girl 1.   my Doll is special
Girl 2.   do you mean doll

Girl 1.  I mean DOLL
Girl 2.   that is what I said

Girl 1.  No you didn't.  Dont touch my Dolls anymore!
Girl 2.   but you have to share!

Girl 1. Gimme my Doll (thread) back!
Girl 2. I did not take your doll (thread!)

LOL!   See the symbolic argument here?   Two gals fighting over a doll- when the one just wants to know her doll is special.
