I mean is there a name for them other than "toaster cover dolls"? For those of you who don't know what I am talking about, it's a doll's body w/ith a flat base and it sits on your toaster and the "dolls" skirt hides your toaster. His mom wants one for Christmas, I'm asking on etsy for a custom made one, but I also want to look around for them on comercial websites too.

That is probably what they are called. I see them at craft shows from time to time.

I know a regular cover for a toaster is called a "cozy" so maybe they are called "Toaster Doll Cozy"

Why not make her one? You enjoy doing stuff like that. If you go to JoAnns or a fabric store that has patternbooks, you probably could find a pattern for one. Wouldn't it be pretty much like making a raggedy ann type doll and instead of legs you put a skirt? angel

I really don't have a clue beyond toaster cover doll, lol. Making one yourself isn't a bad idea - it's more personal that way and you can pick the fabrics and all. I did a google search on them and turned up some patterns. In the patterns they just called them toaster covers. If she would like a gypsy, this one is cute. Thank you every one. Yeah sewing it would make it more special, and I originally wanted to sew it myself, I'm just not feeling up to any kind of sewing, I still have to do my Sister in law's baby items, and it's pitiful it's taking me so long, because honestly come on, all a baby blanket is, is square you wash hem and sew. I was gonna hand wash all the material, and then I couldn't find it and now I found it an put it somewhere safe and I am just feeling so eh, about all of it, I was gonna make home made sewn ornaments too and now I doubt I will because I just can't summon any enthusiasm for sewing stuff lately.

Awww.... I'm sorry. Maybe you could get away with using that seam glue stuff since it probably wouldn't be washed. I totally understand not being able to muster up the enthusiasm though. I know you said you were looking into etsy - I did some snooping on ebay and got some good results for the phrase "toaster cover dolls". A lot of vintage ones though - don't know if that is really what you want. You might be able to find a local craft who could point you towards someone who makes these as well. [:)]

Aquatic, there's a lady on etsy who's going to custom make it for me for 25 dollars. I told her the colors, that daddy told me his mom would like a blue dress with gold trim and the sweedish flag somewhere in the center of the dress, and barbra said no problem. For the blankets I could probably do an over cast stitch, I think it'd keep it from unraveling, maybe do the over cast, then fold down and let the overcast be my seam allowance. I could try it on a junk piece of fabric.

You're not missing anything lol, There's a sewing foot called a G foot, an that term will also likely be lost on non sewers, or those like me that for a long time didn't have a machine that required special feet for certain stitches, but a sewing foot, it's basically the thing that "walks on the fabric"and it's got a mettle bar in it and the needle jumps back and forth over the bar and that's the stitch, creating that look we see when you look at the edge of any seam inside your clothing like a sleeve seam on your robe or any item where the stitch is used, and instead of going along the edge of the fabric , like a strait stitch would, it catches the edge of the fabri too., quote: ORIGINAL: AquaticSub [Ugh I wish I could help ya there but I am truly lost when it comes to sewing terms. I used to crochet toaster covers when I was younger. I probably lost the pattern but I know where I can get another.

Shar I saw a knitted one, it was a barbie doll and her skirt was knitted with ribbon weaved through it for bows and I thought ewww how ugly lol.

Good luck finding one in a store kiddies, their official name is Fire Hazard lol I know they don't even allow them to be sold at Markets in Australia anymore.

SirPumpy, one would hope people are not dumb enough to put them on toasters that are turnt on. I don't see how they'd be a fire hazard if you're not leaving your toaster on with them on it, or if you're not leaving your toaster plugged in, even when not in use.
