ORIGINAL: Toppingfrmbottom SirPumpy, one would hope people are not dumb enough to put them on toasters that are turnt on. I don't see how they'd be a fire hazard if you're not leaving your toaster on with them on it, or if you're not leaving your toaster plugged in, even when not in use. Human nature suggests that there will always be idiots who do stupid things and when it comes to creative ways to set a house alight I've seen more than my fair share back when I was a volunteer firefighter. Even a recently used toaster warm enough to put your hand in when covered with a toaster doily can combust because of the chemicals in the acrylic fibre or the stuffing used in the doll part. Add to this the frequent dry warmth tented in the underside and the dry fibres from the wool or thread dropping into your toaster and you have a ticking bomb waiting to go off. Id also consider the health implications of cooking something in an item that has polymer fibres in it and the possibility that these fibres may give off toxic fumes when heated that may, over time when consumed on toast have an adverse effect on your health. I think its asking for trouble and even worse are the toaster oven doilies. Im just throwing this information out there and how you digest it is up to you. Regards, Pumpy
