isn't it?  I just love a happy ending.... (no sexual innuendo intended)

Both of my cats are micro-chipped for this exact reason-

That's so sweet.

My stepson wants to bring his cat up here, now that he's moved up. She's an indoor cat. I think we should get her chipped because she would be lost two feet outside the door, it's nothing like what she's used to.

Those tiny little chips are so powerful!  What a wonderful Christmas for both the family and the cat.  Hope they give the person who fed that cat for 5years a nice Christmas gift or reward.  My own baby gets spayed/chipped tomorrow.  All my critters are chipped.

Microchipping is wonderful--it's completely humane, takes just a minute, and many local shelters, health depts, animal control agencies etc. do offer micro-chipping at reduced costs---I got mine done at a micro-chip day and it cost less than a bag of cat food for each one!
The device itself is about the size of a grain of rice--it's inserted using a syringe/needle and mine never even budged while they were doing it.

People who think that their dog or cat won't run away forget that accidents happen. Doors get left open, gates fail, children let dogs out of yards to play with them, not realizing what will happen..... every year, animals get spooked by storms or fireworks and bolt out of fear.  The animals that get returned to the owners are the ones that the authorities can identify.   Collars get lost or broken, tags fall off.

I've seen disputes over dogs and cats where two people claim the pet as their own--the microchip settled the matter in minutes, without a court battle.

Micro-chipping is wonderful!

thats an awesome story and i know i was lucky that i found my missing cat after just 11 days, which is nothing compared to 5 years even when it felt for ages. All except urmel are microchipped and he'll get done when he gets fixed as his mum hated getting micro chipped without being knocked out...and yes, was i glad that he was microchipped when he was missing, even when we found back together without that...

My parents have both thier cats and the dog chipped, they drive over the road, and the kids travel with them.  For all the traveling I've done w/my cats, I don't have mine chipped, but when they travel, they are harnessed and the leashes stay on them.....that way, should they get out, I can just step on the leash.  It's happened....Smooch is terrible about trying to escape.  My place now has an interior hallway entrance, so if he sneaks out, he still can't get outside.  There are only 4 apartments here, and we all know everyone's pets, so I'd get a knock if he snuck out.  I'm sure my sister has Coda chipped, I doubt the cats are done, they belong to her son.

It's wonderful that they were able to locate the little guy's family......I know I'd be heartbroken if one of my beebees turned up missing.
