Its a goverment of, by and for the haves

yup. Thats why under that government half the people dont pay any income taxes for the services they get.

Which is to say that half the workers in this country are paid so little they do not meet the minimum for having any tax liability. All that tells us is that this country underpays a huge portion of the work force. The actual figure is more like 47%, but actually a lot of that is retired people who have lower income and simultaneously have that added deduction. Except for the 119,000 filers with income above $200,000 who paid zero income tax, of which were 6,000 with income above $1,000,000 who paid no income tax. That's from the tax year 2009.

Neither do most of the corporations.

bullshit

"Check the box"

Pass-through entity

Ring any bells?

You should have stopped at "Check the box," tazzy. That's at willbe's level of understanding, but something like "pass-through entity" is probably a beyond him. Not as bad as what I was going to point out though, the common practice of "transfer pricing," which would have been unfairly mind blowing in this situation.

Guess the fact that corporate tax revenue accounts for only 12 percent (some say only 7) of all federal tax revenue collected would have blown his mind too.

One of the many things that pisses me off about the haves versus the have-nots is their profound sense of injury if their dignity is affronted.  Examples:

1. The nation's bankers commit fraud.  Documents are falsified to make borrowers eligible when they shouldn't have been, appraisals are fraudulent, the resulting mortgage-backed securities are falsely stated to be AAA investments, and the criminals behind it all give themselves massive bonuses.  The house of cards collapses, and the companies are handed massive government bailouts. To punish them, the CEOs are chewed out by Congress.

2. President Nixon is overseeing the government when some of his underlings bug the DNC.  His office resists the subsequent criminal investigation, and introduces the unprecedented concept of "executive privilege" to obstruct justice.  Evidence is clearly tampered with.  He is pressured to resign from office and pardoned because he had "suffered enough".

3. President Clinton commits perjury.  He is impeached.

4. Charles Rangel is censured.  That means he is told that he is a naughty boy in front of his peers. This is his punishment for misuse of funds and tax evasion.

You get the idea.  These are people that would be subject to criminal charges if they were everyday citizens like you or I.  Because they are the high and mighty, they get public criticism instead of jail terms and fines.

Okay, I feel better now.  A little.

Steve, while I see and largely agree with the point you're trying to make, "Dignity" isn't at issue or at stake here. Do the wealthy and powerful use it as a pretext to win court cases? No doubt. Have they stopped throwing parties amongst themselves when they've been accused of a I crime? Doubtful in the extreme.

I'd also add that there are plenty of Bernie Madoff's and Mike Tyson's who did the crime, and did the time.

Moonhead -> RE: A rant about dignity and those who don't deserve it. (12/9/2010 4:58:31 AM)

It's hard to shake the feeling that Madoff was just sent down so that an example could be made of him, though.

will, a bit of clarification. When you say regulators do you mean the actual people who went to the banks to check them out or the people who were above them and told them what to report, pulled them from the banks, pushed for and attained lax rules/regulations for banks? If the former... well, think about it. If the latter; that's more or less who Steven is talking about.

My reference to regulators was the top end...Congress and the Financial Service Committee and their toys Fannie and Freddie. And that is not what I read DS as talking about, which was the bankers themselves who only responded to what they were given or was demanded of them.

If DS were talking about Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, Frederick Raines et al Id sharpen the knife to cut their balls off. (and yes, I suspect Waters' has em)

Sean Hannity has numbed your brain.

You forgot to mention the use of the deaths of 3000 innocents on 9/11 to launch the country into two wars and more life lost. Lies and deceit at every turn. Last I looked he just wrote a best seller and his minions just returned to power in Congress....I can't wait to see what happens.

Hannity has that fascination for Democrats' balls too? No wonder willbe is so locked on that.

Too focused on that to notice that Phil Gramm had the bankers' balls in his mouth the whole time he was on the Senate banking committee, including when he pushed through the two major deregulation laws that caused the whole mess.

If he knew one tenth as much about financial markets as he does about Democrats' balls he'd quit blathering such silly crap.

Let me welcome you to the human race... an overly cleaver species of primate with strong tribal and hierarchal instincts.

The solution to all of these problems is, of course, obvious to everyone: we must put the correct people in power who, with thier moral and intellectual superiority, their monopoly on truth, will then guide the benighted masses (that would be everyone except "me," and those who agree with "me") to paradise.

Yes, it is true that, like all humans, I do make mistakes sometimes.

When I am elected King of the world… the first thing I will do is burn all dictionaries…and shortly after that I will burn all those that can’t resist pointing out my spelling errors.

What about the ones pointing out your grammatical errors? They'll be safe won't they?

PS: In the context of your post, "King" should not have been capitalised unless all of "King Of The World" was [;)]

ALL HAIL HIS ROYAL MAJESTY KING BUTCH!

As your most loyal subject, I humbly propose the following:

All subjects who point out the spelling/grammer errors of others shall be sentenced to having their knuckles rapped with a ruler by a nun who is into bodybuilding (exceptions will be made in cases where said spelling/grammer errors result in unintentional but hilarious puns).

All subjects who point out spelling/grammer errors of others in the false belief that this invalidates the error maker's argument will be subject to fifty lashes in the public square. While the malefactor is being whipped they shall have a sign hung around their neck that reads: "bean whiped relly herts."

All subjects who point out the spelling/grammer errors of others, while committing such errors themselves as they do so, shall be summarily exectued for the good of the Kingdom's gene pool.

SO LET IT BE WRITTEN, SO LET IT BE DONE.

Edited for spelling/grammer errors.
