Brain -> Fox News Boss Ordered Staffers To Echo GOP Talking Point About Public Option In Health Care Coverage (12/9/2010 8:19:44 PM)

It's unfortunate Fox news deceives people like this because in Canada the government has no control over what goes on in healthcare. People make appointments to see a doctor when they need to and the government doesn't interfere in decisions doctors make on how to treat their patients.

Media Matters has obtained leaked emails that show how a top Washington editor at Fox News directed his journalists not to use the phrase "public option."

Instead, Bill Sammon, Fox News' Washington managing editor, told staffers to use the phrase "government option." This happens to be the exact phrase that Republican pollster Frank Luntz had advised Republicans to begin using to describe the public option -- on Sean Hannity's show, no less.

Speaking to Hannity in August 2009, Luntz said that "if you call it a 'public option,' the American people are split," but that "if you call it the 'government option,' the public is overwhelmingly against it."

And what, exactly, is wrong with journalists being instructed to describe something accurately and honestly, rather than use inaccurate words that have crept into common use?

It's not true that's what's wrong. The opposite is true and for me it's Republican propaganda or talking points which are in keeping with Robert Murdoch's million-dollar donations to the Republican Party.

Wrong again. You are 0 for 3271.

Yes, he seems to take a lot of comfort in that statement.  Flexible with the facts I guess.    M

Seriously....

Is anyone REALLY surprised by this? That Fox News is the mouthpiece of the Republican Party? If one observes Fox News long enough (without going insane), they learn the 'buzz phrase' of the day. Each person says it sooner or later on their show, or when giving the 'news'. Back in 2009, the GOP was trying to rally people behind 'goverment spending' by using a term most conservatives didn't understand, to be something of evil. Again, is anyone surprised that conservatives bought in to 'goverment option' without an ounce of thought, or used those 'critical thinking' skills?

Are you expecting Fox News to apologize for lying to the American people? You'll be waiting a REALLY long time, for that apology.

Wilbur appears to. Whether he's a person or not is a whole other debate, of course.

Various print publications have instructed reporters not to use the word "terrorist" or the phrase "the war on terror".
I find that not only inaccurate but chilling and dangerous.
I agree with Mr. Sammon that "government option" is simply more accurate.

I suppose much of this kerfluffle depends on whose ox is being gored.

But if you don't like this you're due for a trip to the Valley of Misery the second week of January....

Brain, if you're looking for lies, sneakyness, obfuscation and subterfuge there's plenty of that on all the other networks.

Do you have a link for that, I'd like to know who's doing it and what they are replacing the word terrorist with?

However that doesn't have any bearing on what fox has done.

Nope, being wrong makes him wrong. "Government option" is precisely what Obama wants, is the inevitable result of Obamacare in its current state, and to call it "public" is political obfuscation.

Well, you did know about Obama/Napolitano's replacement of terrorism with "man-caused disaster" Im sure. What more do you need?

tough to do...after the unions all get their waivers what little useful support there was on the Dem side will be gone, and overriding vetoes wont be possible.

Brain, if you're looking for lies, sneakyness, obfuscation and subterfuge there's plenty of that on all the other networks.

Look this is old, old news. Soon as Murdock bought Metro Media and formed Fox he went on a firing spree to rid the network of everybody who doesn't toe the compnay line.

The WTTG affilitate in Washington DC watched this go on for a year at other affiliates and felt protected because it was among the most profitable of them. Murdock & Co. in time went in and told them all what to say period and how to slant everything pro repub, anti-dem.

Walking through a corrider outside offices of The Times or The Sunday Times that he had just acquired, asked a staff employee "Who are these people sitting at their desks reading, tell them to get to work." Staff replied "These are our editors, reading is their job."

Fox 'News' hires 'liberals' and ones that nobody has ever heard of to debate issues only to at the end, come full cirle and almost completely agree with the latest repub propaganda.

The only thing Rupurt Murdock has to offer anybody is unlike Trump and Turner, is how to inherit millions and not go bankrupt several times...or has he ? I haven't been following him lately. It wouldn't surprise me, that's how most capitalists operate...losing somebody elses money...dad's or the banks.

That's because there is no such thing and I find it more accurate. It is very profitable spending on fear. One does not pursue a 'war' on a tactic. Plus, it is hardly the same thing at all when say Fox tells people what to say or write in the first place. Fox told 'reporters' to say "What oil ?" What oil ? Ridiculous !!
