And I am posting it here because I have positive expectations. Am I nervous? You bet your butt...lol. Intimidated? No. Take away their whips, canes, floggers, labels, experience and all.....they are still just people. I'm looking forward to it. :)

That's great. I went to my first munch 10 years ago and I can totally relate to the nervous part. But you are right, they were just people. Really nice people actually and I had a wonderful time. I hope your experience is just as good.

After you go to the restaurant, there will be a private party afterward, or you are invited to a dungeon?  Sounds like a lot of fun.  I hope you have a great time.

Thanks Cynthia :) No mention of dungeons yet. I guess that would be their once or twice a month parties they mention on their website. And I think you have to attend so many meetings and get a sponsor to go to those. They seem like a tight knit group.

From the emails I have received, they actually have a meeting room at one restaurant where they have a topic of discussion and people contribute at will. They then go around the corner to another for their munch.

I like the discussion being first instead of walking in to a total "social" situation. I feel it will give me conversation material so I can mingle more easily at the munch.

As you said we all are just people. You seem to be going in there with a great attitude. Here is hoping it all goes well, and it becomes something you like attending. The outlet can be nice with the right people.

I just wanted to send you My wishes for you to have a good time.  A lot of groups out there have an attendance requirement before being invited to play parties, so don't let that put you off.  Of the places I've been, it can be two (or more) munches and some groups have their own orientation before being able to come to a play event.  Groups that have their parties in private homes and such are just doing that to protect their own interests.

I hope you have a lot of fun!

Their munch minimum is 5 munches. And they do hold the parties at private homes and I can totally see their caution. I hope there is some sort of orientation before the parties. I've seen some statements about protocal on this board and I am clueless on those type of things, obviously. The LAST thing I want to do is offend.

Seriously, call the munch organizer and ask.  If the answer is fetish wear (99% chance it isn't), then wear street clothes outside and change inside.

Seriously Annie. I'm glad you're going and you've got the right attitude. Just get that toga ironed up and you're all set. (Seriously, Carol and I went to various BDSM meetings dressed in street clothes.. jeans and shirts and the like -- we never felt out of place and honestly, the people were so friendly that even if we WERE out of place, we'd still have been made to feel welcome).

Thanks Jeff, I appreciate that...I enjoy your posts. :) Ok, the toga's out, I'm ironing challenged. Street clothes it is.

I've gotten a couple of emails about this and the groups definitely vary, from no munch requirements to go to play parties to this one, that takes 5 and a sponsor. I found it interesting. But houston is flippin crazy anyway, so I don't find 5 munches unreasonable.

My now ex-husband and I went to munches in Massachusetts and learned a lot and met lots of nice people. I can totally empathize with your nervousness as I've been in FL for 6 years and haven't made it to a munch yet. Maybe you will inspire me to go to the one next week.

Ok, it went really good with minimal bruising and blood loss. booyah!

I'm so kidding. It was fun with lots of good discussion and laughter. Made some good contacts.

I only got a little overwhelmed once when some people asked me to go to a party the group was having tonight. It was just so unexpected I bowed out on this one. But I felt it was really cool of them to extend the invite.

So I'm getting RSVP'd for the New Years Eve party it seems. I really enjoyed myself and am looking forward to my first play party and to go to next weeks munch.
With the party being held on New Years Eve, it should be a blast. :)
