Termyn8or -> Beer algebra (12/10/2010 11:53:25 PM)

Now an 18 pack of brand A plus the usual is 20
A 30 pack of B plus the usual is 20.
A 24 pack of A plus the usual is 22.

Cost of "the usual" is about 2. Therefore the unit price can be figured out by using the figures minus 2.
So the cost of the 24 pack of A is 2 more than the cost of an 18 pack, which should mean that the "extra" 6 costs 2. But that is not really true because in essence it only changed the unit price (per) overall.

Therefore this mathematical relationship is expressable two different ways before comsuming the beer. (it is much more expressable after consuming the beer, so expressable in fact noone will understand it) How would that be done ? I am thinking H1<H2=NO. (shit, that's why the engine hoister isn't in the basement) But then that gets into boolean algebra which is not the subject right now.

Speaking of Boolean Algebrassierre, who the fuck was Boolea ?

Anyway, I am not asking for anyone to do my homework for me because I don't go to school.

At 120 pounds 3 bears gets me buzzed, six gets me drunk.

I am a cheap date and not liable to do any beergebra. Sowwy.

W = Price
X = Number of units
Y = Usual (in this case Y = 2, btw what is "the usual?")
Z = Price per unit

(W - Y) / X = Z

(20 – 2) / 18 = 1

(20 – 2) / 30 = .60

(22 – 2) / 24 =  .83

I hope that helps you out.

Boole was an English mathematician in the 1800's.

Just so you know, Boolean algebra deals with truth statements in logic (abstract algebra).  I think that the term you are looking for is 'algebraic equation.'

Aylee, you are just waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too smart this early in the am!  If it's not 2+2, I'm lost!  The alphabet and math just aren't compatible in my world!

*show off!*  [:)]

Aylee, you turn me on SO much when you speak mathy....

 Hey Aylee......you wanna be my math tutor after I start school next month? I've got lotsa math courses coming up once I start.

I'm wondering which portion of these bears you consume? Or do you drink beers with the bears? If so, how do you get drunker when drinking beer with 6 bears than with 3? Logic would say that the fewer bears, the more beer for you.

CalifChick -> RE: Beer algebra (12/11/2010 11:55:39 AM)

I'm guessing "the usual" is tax and/or bottle deposit, if applicable.

The easiest way to remember that the price of one thing is the total price divided by the number of things is to think of something like hotdogs are 2 for $1. How many is one hotdog? You know its 50 cents without even figuring out a formula (unless you drank all the beer in the OP)... Price divided by units is $1 divided by 2 = 50 cents.

The only reason I can find for Termy trying to figure out beer algebra is to see if he is buying the best deal for his beer.  But, he does not tell us the sizes of the beer, after all they can range in size from 3 ounces to 40 or so ounces.  He should really be figuring cost by ounce for the best deal.

Of course, I believe that kegs or home-brew is even more cost effective per ounce.  Yes, it does take several batches of home-brew to start paying off, but it also makes a wonderful present.

I am actually one of those people that figures the unit or portion cost of things when I am shopping (if they are not already available).  I can also figure sale percents and such.  Just parts of consumer math that all people should know.

Phoenixpower -> RE: Beer algebra (12/11/2010 7:50:09 PM)

yep, a friend of mine brews his beer [:)]
and i agree to consumer math,its certainly helpful to check out what the best offer really is..beeritself isnt really my stuff, today i bought the first bottle in six years here,only as i need it for a new recipe im trying out...when i moved a ridicioulus moving man claimed that i would drink a lot of alcohol (we emptied a shelf which we at first didnt expect to be able to take with us) as there were 5 bottles of wine...that really made me snort, as they are mainly for visitors...[8|]
