ORIGINAL: CalifChick I'm guessing "the usual" is tax and/or bottle deposit, if applicable. The easiest way to remember that the price of one thing is the total price divided by the number of things is to think of something like hotdogs are 2 for $1. How many is one hotdog? You know its 50 cents without even figuring out a formula (unless you drank all the beer in the OP)... Price divided by units is $1 divided by 2 = 50 cents. The only reason I can find for Termy trying to figure out beer algebra is to see if he is buying the best deal for his beer. But, he does not tell us the sizes of the beer, after all they can range in size from 3 ounces to 40 or so ounces. He should really be figuring cost by ounce for the best deal. Of course, I believe that kegs or home-brew is even more cost effective per ounce. Yes, it does take several batches of home-brew to start paying off, but it also makes a wonderful present. I am actually one of those people that figures the unit or portion cost of things when I am shopping (if they are not already available). I can also figure sale percents and such. Just parts of consumer math that all people should know.
